1) I have a very good friend from Germany who immigrated to Arkansas, US to marry – and who got a culture-chock so severe he now lives in Province, RI and is divorced.
That's a shame. I wonder what part of Arkansas he moved to, though. It (attitudes, perspectives, etc.) can change within an hours drive! 😛

2) I’ve been a chat-room forum addict for years. And every now and then I stumbled across a hysteric redneck, whom I felt an obligation to argue with.
Well, ya might be a redneck...
I used to live in Arkansas and even though some are hysterical religious it doesnt go for all though. I was aware of that Arkansas very much is a part of the bible belt but I cant say it was a culture chock coming there. After all the town I come from isnt called the missionary town because thats the fav sexual position in the area 😉 😎. So comming from the Norwegian bible belt to the US wasnt all that big a diffrence, I guess I had a more chocking impact on some church societies than they had on me

Haha, I love that...😆
Julibug> It was called Hot Springs! Must’ve been pretty backwards – The KKK cleaned high-ways down there. He told me it was like living in “Mississippi Burning.”
Redneck: Used as a disparaging term for a member of the white rural laboring class, especially in the southern United States.
So, Sorry, no. I’m not from the rural laboring class, especially in the southern US 😛

Actually, Hot Springs is a cool place to visit. There are some interesting stores, and the hot springs are great. There are bath houses/spas, etc. I have heard that the KKK is rampant in southern Arkansas, though, but I didn't realize they were active right in that area. Thankfully, I live in the northern part of the state! 😉

I was afraid you would think that I was calling you a redneck. I wasn't. I promise. I was quoting Jeff Foxworthy, "If you __(fill in the blank)__, ya might be a redneck!" ( http://www.jefffoxworthy.com/homepage.shtml )
He probably is only known in the US - mostly in the south. I did put a link to his website in my last post. You probably wouldn't care for it much, but it explains why I was quoting him.
Don't let the whole "Mississippi Burning" thing ruin your opinion of Arkansas. It sounds like he had a terrible experience here, but not everyone is like that. 🙂 In fact, Arkansas is one of the most beautiful states in the US, and many of the people here are really nice & not so backward!! Southern & Eastern Arkansas is a little weird, but up here in the northern area of the state & in the river valley, it's really nice.
Examples of the beauty of the natural state:
