RP General Discussion

There has always been this general idea that Jedi are well educated indeed (but that Type Cs never paid attention)

So I assume that some obscure and akademic skills are just not listed in character sheets?

Well, it depends how you mean. The skills only simulate those immediately relevant to gameplay- whatever technical knowledges you have, for example, are covered in Fix-It and Sabotage.

All Jedi have knowledge of the legal codes of the Galaxy but Law in the sense that a Lawyer would use it is a seperate skill.

Much of history and philosophy is built into Savoir-Faire, though that is often practical experience as well.

What a simplistic aproach. Takuan may be strong with the Force, but he is too limited to understand Gallador`s perspective.

hah...well gallador's perspective will likely get him killed, especially since his so keen to show it without restriction and fear of consequences.
that is what takuan sees...and he won't have that as an obstacle. jena will die.

It was also weird that you didn`t list Persuade as one of the skills for Cultists, since they are basically fallen Scholars, who have it at +4. I decided to spend 2 of my free points on it on character creation, not sure if it was 100% in accordance to rules, but it didn`t make sense for me otherwise.

Dark Siders have Persuade convert into Lying.

thx for answering my question

But Persuade is broader than Lying, isn`t it? If you try to talk the criminal boss into allying with you, wouldn`t you use Persuade?

Heck,. you should see how many times the Jedi have wanted Lying!

It all depends on your approach.

Are Jedi beyond lying? Surely there is nothing wrong in deceiving bad guys, especially if it is an alternative to killing them. What about Obi-wan lying to Luke?

No they aren't. Just, by default, they aren't very good at being convincing about it.

In the same way that your certainty that you are the greatest thing in the Universe makes careful persuasion damn hard.

Hehe, still need to use seduction somewhere!

Hmm, some people will still follow megalomaniacs, it happened all over throughout history, both on Earth and in galaxy far away.

Isn`t "join me and together we rule the galaxy" persuasion?

They need a reason to.

No, that's Leadership.

Yes, I was just trying to prove my point about Persuasion being suitable for Darkside, temptation and corruption is as likely to use Persuasion as Lying.

Nope, because you cannot use Persuade with something that isn't fundamentally true; it is the use of reasoned argument to bring others around to your point of view.

Lying is the falsification of such argument. Intimidation is skipping the argument entirely and giving other reasons.

So, what skill do I use for bribing a Republic official?

Hmm, but the problem is that Darkies really believe that Darkside is greatest and most powerful, so preaching it is a reasonable argument from their point of view.

Yes, but no reasoned argument is going to bring anyone over to the Dark Side who does not wish it- social rolls are only required on resisting targets. The Dark Side is seductive; it pulls people in with Lies, hooks them with false promises- just look at Anakin.

And it depends on the approach to the Bribery.

Wow, talk about...um...talking.
