I guess we don't fight melee opponents often... but you have no excuse, you have the Osokans to contend with, and that's ALL they do.
How often are we ever lightsaber-less?
Yeah. Shut it 😛
Also, I'd highly recommend getting either Coordination or Balance and mastering it, because they are awesome.

Yeah, that's something I was actually anticipating, which is why I made sure Aurel knows how to fisticuff. Hasn't been on the streets enough to learn those moves yet, though, so no low blow high damage for him. 😛

Yeah, I'm starting to realize that my current powerset isn't all that...well...good...😐
Well, not necessarially.
From a gameplay perspective. My character is absolute crap with guns, having given them up for extra points in Piloting and Pilot tricks.
From a more cannonical perspective. The only Jedi we ever see using any sort of firearm is Obi-wan, and that was a back-against the wall, I have to do this, sort of thing, definitely a desperation move as opposed to anything he's good at. Also why would a Jedi need to use guns? You have a blade that cuts through anything, AND can reflect anything shot at you back at the attacker. There is simply no need for Jedi to be proficiant at any type of guns, as a default move.
Characters in these games have picked it up before, but it is not required by any means.

It can be very useful in game. My character uses them, when he's not stranded on a prison planet without weapons of any kind.

If that's the case, though, then how, where, and in particular, why would Ben know how to use them? He had to have developed his distaste for the things some kind of experience, right?
Oh, from a custom character standpoint, of course. I was actually kind of singling out Obi-Wan with that train of thought. 😛
Also, for those of you who may not know already, but I'm not as lore savvy as I might have to be, so if you guys make some references that I don't understand, it's because I've little experience with Star Wars outside the movies.

Or they could be like my character, who dislikes and pretty much refuses to use any weapons other than her lightsaber. She finds them inferior and a waste of time 😛
She's also a saber nut, though, and is damn proud of her skill with a lightsaber.

Well then you are in luck because the overwhelming influence for the game is the movies. The writers have limited experience with the EU.
If there are lore references you do not get, they will be mostly internal.

Can't say I blame her. Sabers are Awesome, and no, that wasn't a grammar error. 😛

Well that makes things easier. Yay, I once again don't feel so out of place. 😆
To be honest, I have always been stoked that you (Ush) and your brother are not terribly familiar with the Expanded Universe. Sometimes the EU just makes me sad, and it's rad that the games stem from the movies themselves.
As for characters' weapon preferences... the way Galder looks at it, a lightsaber can cause a horribly grand amount of damage, but its shortcoming is its lack of range. For that, he relies on hard-hitting blasters. I've decided that Galder probably isn't the heavy weapons type, though. He likes explosions but... eh.
I used to be all for the EU, and at first was kinda dissapointed at its absence in these games. Looking way back in this thread might actually find an argument from me for including it. But I now reaslise that the EU is too broad and not nearly as universally familiar amongst SW fans as the movies themselves. If EU references that mattered were made in these games, some folks would be at a disadvantage.
Besides, I completely gave up on reading new EU stuff after they started killing main characters. I read the entire Galactic invasion line, just because I started it and wanted to know how it ended. By the time I was done I was rpetty uncomfortable with where it went and looking back over the series, the major deaths they put in there still didn't make sense. I've 'looked in' on new stuff since then, browsing message boards or flipping through the odd book and from what I've seen, I'm glad I got out when I did. /rant
So, out of curiosity, are the explanation of lightsaber combat forms considered part of EU, or was that explained previously?
I know there are, like, books that go more in-depth to the lore that the movies show, but some of the stuff that interests me I really don't know where it comes from, like the example above.

Apparently in my head I already know you as Andro. 😛
