My revamped background, if Azarl's alieness is approved.
Azarl was born into the Kaal tribe on his native world of Vudes, a world far from the Republic. The Vudans are a race of insectoid species that were once enslaved by the Sith. The Sith sought to use them for the advantages gained by controlling the hive minds of the Vudans, who were already proficient warriors. The Jedi never came to their rescue, only encountering them when the Sith deployed them on the battle field. The Vudans were freed when the Sith simply left to fight their final war against the Jedi and lost, but the influence has not left. The Vudans still war amongst themselves in tribal feuds.
Azarl was discovered to be sensitive to the Force by the shaman Salcazar, of whom Azarl was an illegitimate son. Azarl's strength in the Force meant that he was free of the hive mind, as was Salcazar. Thus, their view of the Force was known as the Will- the strength of mind that allowed them to manipulate the world around them and act of their own accord. Salcazar taught him the ways of the Force but forbid him from being overt about his abilities. Salcazar preferred the subtle control of the Kaal tribe.
Eventually, though, Azarl began to think that he could bend all of the warring tribes to his Will. After a vision led him to the wreckage of a Sith warship in the territory of another tribe, Azarl found a lightsaber and an ancient battle droid with protocol programming. He took it as a sign that he could unite the tribes and began to practice his lightsaber. He eventually overthrew Salcazar, exiling him, and began a war to unite his planet. His bid was successful and he united all the Vudan tribes, though thousands were killed.
However, once Azarl united the Vudans, he was not content to stop there and tried to dominate their minds entirely. He had not learned such subtle powers from Salcazar and the exiled shaman returned and managed to turn the hive mind against him. Azarl used ancient communications technology on the Sith warship to send out a distress signal as his entire planet turned against him. Roving slavers arrived and Azarl managed to hitch a ride with them, taking J7 with him but no others.
Out in the Galaxy, Azarl managed to procure himself a synthetic suit of flesh that allowed him to fit in and appear humanoid, although he appears awkwardly lanky and stretched. He was discovered by Nume Rand, a former Jedi Master, and taught the ways of the Galaxy. Azarl intends to strengthen his Will so that one day he can return to Vudes and dominate the hive mind.
He has grown tired of the flesh suit and has shed it. Only Rand knew of his secret nature.
