Fresh blood on both teams! Should be exciting to see how they fit in.

Any concept of 'busy life' is entirely self-generated! 😄

This is amusingly profound. We tend to use the time we're given to complete a task, which means a certain level of procrastination from even the diligent.

I'm currently in the middle of my semi-annual sh*tstorm of work that has me working 12 hour days back to back to back, wondering if it could've been avoided. I can somewhat counter that I did a lot of things in anticipation of this time to be "ahead" on other work (finishing things not due until much later, for instance). But there's still a lot of time wasted if I'm being honest.

I certainly tend to bring mass amounts of work due in short periods of time on myself, putting off major projects until much too late.

My problem is that sudden periods of busy stuff tends to also coincide with other stuff in my life just really, really sucking, so I get stressed to all hell from it all.

The universe hates me.

I do have good explanations for my work. Most times, I'm not super-busy. But I'm always working with deadlines, and not always able to work at my own pace because I have to rely on others to get me materials for them. When 2-3 big deadlines fall around the same time, the storm ensues.

Still, when there are days when I get get tragically little done, there's always something more that could've been done. So meh.

Oh, the fun of deadlines and other people not carrying their weight...

I know that well. I've started griping at my coworkers about it and being more assertive and just telling people "Go do this thing now" though 😄 I'm really, really bad at that sort of thing. Even though I've been in management positions for various things for quite a few years now.

Still, seems that no matter what situation I'm in, when things go wrong it falls on me to fix it, and it's...not fun. At all.

That's not fun at all, I would have thought you would have gotten a lot of experience with the telling people what to do thanks to this group 😛

Telling you guys what to do online is a bit different from telling people what to do in person 😛

Also, I'm not terribly good at getting people in this group to listen to me, either, so there's that as well.

A few years ago one of my staffers at the convention GK and I worked for said that over the course of the weekend, my attitude would go from being all nice and sweet to "Do it. No, do it. DO IT NOW." as I got more and more stressed with trying to balance running a rather large and busy department 😛

😂

When is that convention again and what is it about? I was thinking about going to it this year?

It's in late April this year (usually it's mid-May), but you picked a bad year to decide to go - we both left staff, GK's not going at all, and I'll only be going one day if at all so I can see some of my friends 😛

Well tell GK he sucks 😛

It's just a friend of mine moved to Chicago so I planned on visiting them at some point and thought it would be cool to go see that to 😛

He's coming to visit in May instead 😛

Chicago is awesome w00t

ACen is fun, though. I think. I haven't actually done anything at the con beyond work for the past...geez, six years? This year would have been my seventh on staff (and tenth attending).

😂 nice,

I've been to Chicago once before but that was probably 7 years ago.

It was fun I look forward to going back 😛

Finally completed my Jedi Knight costume, please let me know what you think guys 😛

Not bad!

And after the photoshop...

Nice.

I have pics of me in a Jedi costume somewhere. But it's from a long time ago, just over a decade. I was broke and in high school though, so it's not quite as official as JR's there.

Mines not official in the slightest.

I do not have pictures of my actual Jedi robes I made a few years back.

However, I do have my Halloween costume from 2008. Which I made in a single day. I think I win 😄

(that cloak? Hand-dyed. As in, literally stamped the mottled pattern on with dye before cutting and sewing together the pieces. It took forever.)

Bam.

Several years ago now. I ought to do a new one now that I'm all beardy.
