Tree beard looks terrible! Where are you getting these?

http://www.lotruk.com/imagelibrary/bakshi.html

its a good thing they made the new ones yikes!!!

Omg that treebeard looks like a tanned carrot...

AAH! Treebeard is a giant, tanned carrot with leaves on his head...AAH!

Treebeard did look bad.

But there is a SERIOUS mix-up here. Those shots of the Nazgul and Eagles are NOT from Bakshi's animated version, which was very dark and nasty and the Nazguls looked fantastic. Bakshi's version only got to the end of Helms' Deep, remember. There was no Denethor and Palantir and so on.

And that is NOT Gollum. The link given by Kitoky above shows the actual Gollum pics. You have mixed up shots from a DIFFERENT production.

I am a big fan of the animated version and I would ask for accuracy in criticism of it. It was a very well made production and like I say, the Nazguls were far scarier than the ones in the film.

PJ also liked the animated version very much and several scenes in the first two films are taken directly from it.

Oh I'm not critisizing it Ush, I was just showing others how the animated version looked in 1978, it made quite an impression with The Hobbit and LotR and RotK, I must say.

So the frog thing isn't gollum? Then what is supposed to be?

It's not FROM the 1978 version, that is why it is not Gollum. You have mixed things up. Any picture you take from after Helm's Deep is not from that version.

Did you not notice that the shots you were taking from had blatant changes in the way people looked? Whoever did that ROTK animated version, it had NOTHING to do with the famed animated LOTR film.

Oh I see...thanks for clearing that Ush

I liked all of the animated versions for different reasons, the black riders in Bakshi's version were extremely scar, and still are! Whereas the animated return of the king is hilarious, if I remember correctly, Legolas and Gimli aren't even in it! The Gollum that you see on the pictures, from the animated Return of the King is really funny, especially the way he runs, and seems to have a vaguely Yorkshire accent, which somehow makes him more sinister?! The fact that there is a song every five seconds is also unbelievably funny, I know there are lots of songs in the book, but it is different in the animated version, I think you'd have to watch it to get what I mean properly though. Sam is also extremely dramatic in the non-Bakshi version.

Also, why are people saying Boromir looks like a Viking- which he does NOT- and not the Riders of Rohan from PJ's film... who DO?

People need to learn some sense before they mock.

❌ Sorry?

It's ok, just inaccurate mocking gets to me.

I am glad Jennifer agrees about the scary Black Riders- they really were very good.

Wow. Im new here but thats hilarios 😂

Welcome Welcome Chelesian 🙂

Yeah, hi! Hi! 😄

lol oh god, its in HMV still and the hobbits actually look like children, merely 5 years old I would say.

It comes down to the perception Bakshi's had of the LOTR when he made the cartoon movie. I still prefer the animated version of The Hobbit by Rankin Jr. and Jules Bass (sp?) is more like for the kiddies, but great to watch as an Adult.

cartoon and film

i found some pics of the cartoon version of lotr.....

spooky, there was a thread kicking about on the cartoon and the movie

Discos - theres some kick-ass eagles on it
