Just then, Rameses mother popped her head out the door. "Rameses, I need you to take Kem to the farrier. She has a bad nail in her right hind," she called out from the house.
"Alright," Rameses answered. He took Ahmose and put him away in his stall, then went and got Kem out of hers. He sighed, realizing that he would have to take her down the river apiece, to the public ferry. His small raft wasn't big enough to support the weight of a horse. Letting her swim the river was out of the question, with the ever-present danger of crocodiles. He started down the road towards the public crossing.
