i meant movies about hip hop, or having to do with hip hop. and by movies i dont mean movies with actors and a script.

this one i already ordered for example, its a defjux dvd with some live performances but mostly it was just lif, el-p, and other defjux artists on the road or at their apartment talking about their label and their lives. its really interesting actually, if your a fan of any of the defjux artists and ahve a little extra cash id definitely recommend picking it up. its got aes rock, rjd2, vast aire, cage and a few others just chillin and tellin stories to eachother.

Phat J, do you mean live concert DVDs? There aren't usually too many of those.

As for movies with MCs in, I'd stay away.

couldnt agree more ✅

Anyone know when that new Can Ox album is coming out? I remember D00m saying it was early this year but i cant seem to find any info on it.

About 10 or more MC's with ill acting skills that starred in excellent movies, off the top:

Tupac
Trech
Fredro
Ludacris
M.C. Eiht
Ice Cube
L.L. (str8)
Ice T
Will Smith
Snoop (was cool in Baby Boy)
Ja Rule

To name a few.

Oh, reminder: Lyrics are irrelevant.

ludacris, tupac and ice t are good actors, i havetn seen any movies with any of the rest of them.

Will Smith is an actor who puts out records associated with the genre he listens to. He's not a hip hop MC. It's like Shaq making an album. That said, I'd listen to Will Smith and Jazzy Jeff's Summertime over 95% of the shit out today in the mainstream.

None of those have acting skills outside of being typecast. L.L is always "comic" relief most of the time. Snoop plays the generic skinny high man etc.

None of them are good actors save for Will Smith. Even then he's just ok. Morgan Freeman is an actor, Robert de Niro is an actor. Ludacris is not.

Heres something to make you guys chuckle, i got it off a Lakers forum that i visit and its an article on none other than 50 Cent. This dude is so deluded its amazing, there are so many amusing highlights. This is my favourite, its 50's informative take on southern hip hop and its effect on the genre.

"A lot of the music that comes out of the South is kind of simplified and I think it's kinda 'cause they just wanna have a good time," he explained. "They don't wanna think about what [they] just said. ... They really didn't make sense, but they made sense in a way and they just wanna hear something while they're actually partying and it works for them. But when they don't take the time to make it the highest quality possible, it hurts the actual hip-hop [genre]. People wanna make music they can get away with as opposed to the best possible music they can make.

"They'll lower the grade of music," he continued. "It changes the range you can go and then it causes confusion amongst artists that don't have their own direction at that point and they all start making music that is similar. Like if the record comes out and it's a hit and it's the simplest thing on the planet, all of a sudden the new artists start writing records that are similar to that hit. Their motivation is to have a project that's successful and that will allow them to move out of the financial situations that they're in when you're in the 'hood or in the ghetto. They make it sound like the record that they hear playin' on the radio as opposed to just creating their own lane."

Here's the whole article, hope you find it as amusing as i did.

I didn't actually understand any of what he said. I mean, I know what all the words mean, just not what they were supposed to mean together.

Besides, aren't Cunninlynguists from the South and they are ultra awesome...and I cannot recall them singing all about '' 'avin a good time, yo''

Here are my faves

By the time the summer passes, the music that I planned to release will be dated to me

He just basically said what everyone else is thinking - his music is gonna be listened for the moment, because nothing he writes can possibly be timeless.

If it were up to 50, he'd also be awarded as a label boss

Yeah, if anything was up to him we'd all be screwed.

50 says he feels hip-hop needs the new G-Unit releases, as the genre seems to be stuck in a creative rut.

Ahahahaha. AHAHAHAHAHA! Gay-Unit releases....

Ice Cube is a good actor. I dunno what you're on. Hes not a typecast, Ice Cube in Boyz N Da Hood = the same as Ice Cube in Friday = the same as Ice Cube in Barbershop?

I hate Will Smith. He's a straight up hypocrite. "I don't cuss in my records, look at me!!" Nah but you cuss in your horrible movies. And don't give me that "kids look up to rappers" nonsense cause NOBODY looks up to Will Smith.

He's not a hypocrite for saying "I don't cuss in my records" then then cussing in his movies. If he said "Cussing is wrong" and then did it, that would be hypocricy. He said he doesn't cuss in his music and as far as I know, he hasn't.

Ice Cube isn't a good actor. Morgan Freeman is an example of a good actor.

Yes but how are Morgan's emcee skills? 😐

Yes, but where's the relevance in your comment?

We were discussing "actors" in hip hop. Or MCs who have been in films. Someone called Ice Cube a good actor, clearly he isn't.

It doesn't matter if he's a good MC or not. Infact, to use your point against you; That would be like Morgan Freeman trying to MC and everyone saying he's a good MC because he can act. Ice Cube isn't a good actor because he can MC.

Let's be realistic.

It was a joke, we just seem to be on different wavelengths when it comes to humour.

i really want to listen to something new.

Fishscale and Magnificent City were incredible. Ghost and Aceyalone/Rjd2 dropped great albums. kinda slow year in my opinion.

anyone listen to anything interesting?

and my rotation barley changed:

Cunninlynguists- Will Rap for Food
Cunninlynguists- A Piece of Strange
Cunninlynguists- Southernunderground
Gza- Liquid Swords
Ghostface Killah- Fishscale
Qwazaar- Walk Thru Walls

im not bored, i just need change

Have you heard any Fivedeez -hh-? D00m got me into them, smooth jazzy hip hop. I'll up a track if you want to check them out.
