I think you will find they are rarely known.A lot of young people who dress in such ways, don't know where such cultrue came from and are associating every bit of it with hip-hop.
''Thug'' look is strictly talked about as emerging from ''ghetto / street / urban'' - and it hasn't, nor was invented there, but it is a generic belief.
It ''leaked'' from prisons in a very slow and subtle manner, manifasting, and unless you got to see the manifestation through the years, (like Quiero Mota) its a fact which not a lot of people know.
