Noah's Ark

Shaber> But if this eternal being was omnipotent it should've forseen the possible complications in not calling a DAY a day (as in 24 hours) and a year a year. Very vague from someone who supposedly knows all... This discussion is proof of it.

Corlindel> Apology accepted.
Do you know what my problem is - really? I see here, and also in the evolution thread people who enter, and speak of myths and make-belief as if it was facts. As if everyone else believed as they did.
If people need the help of religion to live - fine by me. Thankfully most religious people are not fundamentalists, and take the words og holy books with a grain of salt. Take it for interpretation and guidance.
But when fiction is confused with facts - taken (without prof or evidence) as the truth you endanger our society. You legalise delusions, you legalise things that cannot be proven, you legalise that belief is all the evidence you need to rest your case.
THAT - in my eyes - is extremely dangeros for democracy, facts, science and our evolution towards a - hopefully - better society.

You're welcome to laugh at science if you want to. Your computer still works - 😉

🙂

We don't really have democracy here any more so - what the hey naughty

Shaber> What does democracy on a chat-board have to do with a supposedly divine beings vagueness?????

I meant in the UK not KMC naughty

Man, but you're cyber-obsessed...

Shaber> Wellll.... 🙂 What does democracy in the UK have to do with a supposedly divine beings vagueness?????

You said it's bad for democracy - how can it be bad for what doesn't exist?

I know why they didnt find the ark................it sunk

If it's wood then it would have rotted away long ago...

what else should the ark supposedly have been made off

Adamantium???

Wouldn't an adamantium craft sink? They didn't have great technology in those days...

Or paper mache.

Shaber> Oh, you replied to my post to someone else.
Culturally accepted delusions ARE bad for democracy. Citizens in a so-called free society should be taught not just to believe what they’re told to believe, but to require proof and evidence.

From gensis:
Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch.

And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.

So sorry... No adamantium or paper mache. But what the heck is gopher wood? My dictionary tells me it's either a kind of rodent, squirrel or turtle.

You have a strange translation of genesis 😖

😑

Shaber> Well, I found the verses from Gensis on-line, a close-to-Hebrew translation. English isn't my first language so to speak. A Hebrew cubit is 0.5 meters.

The point however was, that the silly ark was made of WOOD. Whatever kind of wood that is... 🙂

gopher:

a tree from the wood of which Noah was directed to build the ark (Gen. 6:14). It
is mentioned only there. The LXX. render this word by "squared beams," and the
Vulgate by "planed wood." Other versions have rendered it "pine" and "cedar;"
but the weight of authority is in favour of understanding by it the cypress
tree, which grows abundantly in Chaldea and Armenia.

very true. That's what it says in Genesis

RoguePw25> Says what? Gopher wood?
You shouldn't believe everything you read? 😉
