Ok. Europe will help new members development, and that development will depend of the way the newbies apply economical and social aid. Dont worry for now, you will receive economical aid for at least 15 years before stops but until there you must develop yourselves, and the the $ aid will not stop completely .And there are some handicaps. Remember that part of yours sovereigns will be lost bcs the european law has a supranational nature. After a primary aid to the new members, they shall submit their own objectives to the common european ones. In all ways, economics, industry, agriculture, etc. Ofc this is not happening with most of the current members - before May 1. There are always some countries, with more power of decision than anothers, who subvert the spirit of EU managing with their votes on European Conseil the aplication of the Comission directives, wich are the basic and principal rules that members governments shall apply in their own countries.
Ofc, Portugal has a politicaly corrupted government and corrupted local admnistration too. As the most of all, got his money and didnt apllied a lot of directives. Well...I cant see where is been applied a big slice of the money we got. I hope you - new members - have more luck with your governments than me with mine.
First off the EU has quite a bit to tangle with before it becomes a strong opponent to the US. You have to adjust to the pay scales across the members and countries. Some get paid more or less for the same job. The UK is having issues with this right now and is leaning on leaving the EU. You have to set pay standards, enviromental issues. laws and the list goes on. All people have a different way of life and speak different languages which is another set back. Then in order to gain ground you have to invest billions into capita that you may not get back due failure in research and development for the products you invent that you want want to trade with the world. Mainly technology based because its the fastest growing out there which most of it comes from the US China and Japan. The EU is not even close to having the amount of capita needed for these tasks. You have to use the tax dollars/euros to support companies for government funded programs as well as help the poor with food, living, and also help other countries because when they see you grow they'll want you to help out with aid. When you help, there will be people in that country you help that dont want you there which end up being a political game in the end. Setting up schools. Does is Poland going to write books for the Irish.. No they will teach them their own history. It will be divided. The US is a whole.
EU Military... Thats a huge one. The US is the most technologically advanced in the world hands down. You will most likly be buying the US's used equipment as many of you do now because they constantly come up with better and faster toys... Unless of course you use the capita (ie: tax euros) for research and development to come up with your own technology which the US spends trillions on. You will not be able to block the US from a war because they will always find away to stay on top. They have been there a long time and will remain there. Would the EU even want to face a war with the US? They were there in Europe because they couldnt take on Hitler. The US military is much more mightier now then it was back then. Without the US you would have lost. (Iraq is a different kind of war its Urban combat, innocent civilians in the way and terrorists) Its beneficial for the US and the EU to stay friends rather then to "block them from a war" because chances are the US will crush any military force fighting in a normal war. The UN didnt stop them which a lot of members of the EU are in. The EU needs the US as much of the world out there.
Alot of people hate the states but they dont even begin to look at what they have provided for the world today. Computers, internet, clothing cars, planes, Apple pc's, Windows OS, medical and financial aid.
The best thing to come out of the EU is being able to trade with the world and having open borders. Sorry, it will never be a US......
The EU does not want to be like the US, and it will probably never be like that, it never was the intention of the EU nations to become like the US. The reason the EU was created was to prevent war, via economical depends on the other EU nations.
The US might indeed be the most technologically advanced nation in the world altho I do not think that this will last much longer.
The statement that we needed the US to get rid of hitler is a bunch of BS (the only thing "we" needed from the US was Financial en ecomonical aid-we being the russians-)
I seriously doubt the EU and the US form a symbiosis, the EU never planned on waging war against the US. I doubt the US would invade the EU if they would ever prevent them from going to war.
The reason the UN did not stop the war in Iraq is because those decisions are made by the UN security council, which consists out of 15 member of which 5 are permanent members (Russia, US, UK, China and France) the others are changed every 2 years. Well now those 5 permanent members have a VETO right which enables them to block whatever resolution the security council makes. As far as I can remember without checking it the UN did NOT give a resolution in which it agreed to the war. If they wanted to make a resolution against the war the US (and maybe also the UK) would have VETOed it anywayz.
The US as it is will probably win every normal war indeed but I doubt much wars in the future will be considered normal wars.
the fact that without the US we would not have computers, internet, clothing, cars, planes and so forth is a load of crap. It is not because these things were PARTLY invented in the US that they wouldn't have been invented if the US didn't exist
The US will always remain ontop of the technology because of the amount of money it puts in its research and development. Not many countries can afford the capita or are willing to lose the money if the venture goes wrong. Can you back why you think the US will not remain on top? Or is it a gut feeling. I agree the US would never invade EU and vice versa. This would cause a global catastrophe. Im friendly on both sides as much as the rest of the people out there. Somone made a comment about the EU blocking the US from going into Iraq and thats why I mentioned the war part.
The US sent 1 million troops to help rid Europe from Hitler. It took 2 years to coerce them but they finally sent them. If EU needed financial aid it would have been cheaper to send money rather than 1 million men and would have saved alot of American lives. I would double check your facts on that one.
The EU and the US forming a symbiosis. They already have. They trade dont they? You scratch my back Ill scratch yours. They help eachother in different ways and benefit from it as well. Mainly for corporate and to make money. The problem is the US has strict labor laws where the EU doesnt yet. I stress yet. Look at current trade issue with the steel industry. Even though the US companies can buy cheaper steel from the EU this would shut down a numerous amount of steel businesses is the US if it was allowed. They have to protect their economy and keep peoples jobs. The EU wants to slap sanctions on the US because of it. The EU is trying to invest more and more in the US. They are currently trying to invest in their airliners but a foreign investor can only invest up to %25. Reasons being, a time of war. If the French owned %51 percent of the US airliners and vetoed a war, they could stop the US from using the airliners to move the troops.
I wasnt implying that the EU wouldnt be wearing clothing if it wasnt for them I was talking more along the line of trade. The EU as much of the world wants what the US comes up with. Clothing being one of them If the EU or the world could come up with a better way to operate your pc then it would have been done so by now and the US would be buying it. Instead the EU slaps Bill Gates with a multi million dollar anti trust for bundling media player with its software. They come up with the ideas first and trade it throughout the globe. If they kept it to themselves IM sure the world would be a different place. They dont get much credit for the amount of good they have done for this earth.
