What's funny is that Expedia.com or Travelocity.com, one of the two, took the travelling yard gnome idea and used it for their commercials here in the U.S. Had snapshots of the gnome all over the world, talking about low fares, lol.
A Very Long Engagement has lost what made the charm of Amélie, Delicatessen and City of the lost children (?) imho. Maybe it is because it is actually based on a novel, but the fantastic universe of the previous films has turned into a series of unique and funny details awkwardly added to a messy story.
I'm not saying that A Very Long Engagement is a bad film though ; it is still worth seeing.
I gotta completely disagree. I thought the film, after seeing it for the second time, was superior to Amelie. It was a far more "real" film, it showed both horror and beauty, passion and pain, and held a beautiful message of hope.
The movie can be a little tough to follow the first time you see it, and can seem a bit messy at times. But watch it again, you'll see it's just because they wanted to put so many scenes in the film that it would have been difficult, if not impossible to do so without being a bit jarring.
It's a movie that gets better everytime you watch it.
i LOVED amelie, i thought it was beautiful, funny and heartwarming, everything about it was brilliant, the gnome idea was genius and i loved the photo thing, i almost want to look under photobooths now (yes i know lame!!), is a very long engagement any good, it got mixed reviews here and i want to know if its worth seeing it
