Mendoza ran at the nearest Grunt, smashing it's head in with the underside of his Plasma Rifle. He then ducked to the side, holding the Grunt's dead body as a shield and fired at the nearest enemy Jackel. Five plasma bolts boilded away and overloaded the Jackel's shield, then two more turned it's body into a smear on the adjacent wall.
"Take that you son of a ... " Mendoza's words where cut short by an overcharged plasma round flying by his head.
"Shit man, I'm in it deep this time."
A form appeared over Mendoza and started firing in the direction of the plasma round.
"You should watch out. The covenant are relentless" said the giant, a figure of a man.
"Oh, and by the way, I'm LFC John Geddes."
And for a Lieutenant First Class, this John was certainly outfitted with expansive weaponry.

couple pf things. First, there is no leutenant first class. though i some cases there are first and second leutenants, that is a bit complicated, the rank above leutenant is captain.
second, to make it seem more realistic use the designations for your weapons when it's apropriate.
