So, would the governments of the individual planets know if any pirate activity was happening on their planets? If they do, why don't they do anything about it?

-wether ppl want to or not I'm gonna describe this as cinematicly as I possibly can-

*Marcus his eyes flash open when he hears "Senator for the Lamella system... Senator T'Lo Nebb."*
Camera zooms in on Marcus his eyes, imagine the syren from Kill Bill playing in the background
Overhead voice says:Nebb a senator how the hell can that be, After what that guy pulled on Tartarus
*Marcus leans very close to Gundark and wishpers*: "Nebb is one of the most annoying people I have ever met"

(PS ush I think I vaguely remember what Nebb did, is it important that I remember accurately? lemme know cause if so I will reread that episode.)

Ostensibly sent to help you disentangle yourselves from the total legal mess you had trying to investigate things on Tartarus, he instead used every single legal means possible to delay your investigation until the Dark Siders were done and you had to leave- you found out that this was because it is an open secret that the entire Lamellan government is in fact backing the Tartaran smuggling operation, which is why the investigation is getting nowhere.

He is the embodiment of everything you hate about the Republic.

If they called us to help, perhaps they could provide us with some means too...

Yes, if they knew where the pirates were, they would tell you! Point is the pirates are mobile- they don't have a fixed home.
