When will all 6 Star Wars movies be in its own DVD set for sale and how much might it cost, give or take? You're the most creative guy that I can think of with the movies you've made. However, I have to disagree with your views on the digital effects. Even though the prequels were awesome, I go by storyline and artistic form, rather than graphics.
The best episode I thought was The Empire Strikes Back, followed by Revenge of the Sith. The Empire Strikes Back is the only Star Wars movie where you get a real taste of Darth Vader's dark side. Plus the best scene out of every Star Wars movie is when Han Solo is being frozen in carbonite in Cloud City.
The Music, Leia's expression, the orange light reflecting Vader's mask and a moan from Chewbacca that had never been heard before, which choked me up hearing it. But anyways, I only found a few cheap things done in the older movies, but in the prequels, I see dozens of graphics that just look too liquid to be real, if that makes any sense.
When Qui-Gon Jinn grabs Jar Jar Bink's tongue in The Phantom Menace, it reminds me of Toy Story or Shrek. Not because of the humor, but the graphics. Revenge of the Sith was definitely better as far as graphics go, but I know you have the talent to create movies just as good without the graphics. The digital effects seem like a waste of unique talent and I mean that as a compliment. What do you think about this? Thanks.
George Lucas: I‘m not sure when all six Star Wars films will be made available in one set. It could be many years. The cost would be steep. It might cost $ 100 dollars or more, which doesn‘t seem like a good price target to move millions of units.
As for special effects, you have a very naïve view of how the world works. Without computer animation, the prequels wouldn‘t even be possible. The reason the old films look so dated and awful is because we didn‘t have advanced special effects back in the early days. If we had digital effects back when we made the old films, then we could have turned out a product that would be of equal quality just like the prequels. Please don‘t blame me for how bad the old films are. It‘s not my fault. We simply didn‘t have the technology to make top notch films back then. Thankfully that all changed with the prequel trilogy.
I have to agree with you that people looking for plot errors all day need to get a life. It seems as though they sit and ***** at you for making the best motion pictures history. Ha and then they get all upset because you insult them after they insult you. By the way I really enjoy reading such responses, it's so entertaining.
With that said I was wondering what damage was done by you not directing The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, how would have the movies turned out differently if you directed them? I love the films with all my heart but this "What if" question always seems to come to mind. It would make me really happy if you could answer my question. -Simon V., Carlsbad, CA
George Lucas: Thank you for having some common sense about alleged plot mistakes. There simply aren‘t any errors in the films. I carefully crafted each film to make them mistake free. It really is funny to receive supposed plot errors from deranged fans. They all seem to be insane. A sane person wouldn‘t sit around looking for mistakes.
It‘s hard to say how the films would be different if I had directed The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. I guess we all realize that the films would be far superior if I had been at the helm. A New Hope is leaps and bounds above the other two old films. It‘s best not to dwell on something we can‘t change. I just hope the fans forgive me for not directing all of the Star Wars films.
It‘s difficult to look at myself objectively. You must understand it is very difficult being a legend. I‘m thankful that I will always be remembered for having such an immense impact on popular culture. I will probably be the most heralded film maker of my generation a couple hundred years from now.
Dear George. Some person asked: "Does the master have the green-bladed light saber and the apprentice have the blue blade." I would like to point out OBI-WAN AND ANAKIN BOTH HAD A BLUE-BLADED LIGHT SABER WHEN OBI-WAN WAS TEACHING ANAKIN. It was quite a dim question. Anyway how come only Mace Windu has a purple blade?
George Lucas: It is difficult to fathom how ignorant some of the so-called fans are. If you‘re a real fan with any brains at all, you would be able to figure out most of these questions on your own.
Sam wanted a purple-bladed light saber so that‘s why I gave Windu one. I don‘t have an official story on how Windu got his purple-bladed light saber. That is a story the expanded universe will have to write.
George, Star Wars is the greatest series of films ever created. I will buy many copies of Revenge of the Sith and give them to all my relatives because I hope to see the Star Wars TV series soon. I can't wait for it and I just want to know about how long it will be until we see the Star Wars TV show?
George Lucas: You are the kind of fan I hold in the highest regard. Every fan should buy dozens of copies of Revenge of the Sith on DVD and give them to their family and friends. I would appreciate it if more of you did this.
As for the Star Wars TV shows, they probably won‘t be broadcast until 2007 or maybe even as late as 2008. It is going to take a long time to decide how best to approach the TV market.
Dear Mr. Lucas, I have two quick questions. People say that you had a short part in Revenge of the Sith, but I didn’t catch you. Could you tell me where your part is? And I remember Luke Skywalker asking his sister (I don’t remember what episode) if she remembered their mother. Leia said she was very pretty (or young, my memory isn’t that great), but very sad. Yet in Revenge of the Sith, Padme dies after she gives birth making it impossible for the children to remember her. Was this just a mistake or is there an explanation? Thank you.
George Lucas: I have a cameo appearance in the scene where Anakin and Palpatine are at the zero-gravity performance.
You are a very irritating fan. How can you not know the Star Wars films backwards and forwards? What kind of fan can‘t remember what episode Luke and Leia talk about Padme? It‘s Return of the Jedi. At the end of Revenge of the Sith, Padme makes a brief Force connection with Leia. That is how Leia has memories of Padme. This is certainly no error. Please don‘t insult me with such an insipid question.
The prequels are spectacular. The special effects are superb. I'm a young fan so it's obvious that I adore the prequel trilogy. The original Star Wars trilogy has wonderful storytelling but poor, poor graphics in comparison to the prequel trilogy. I applaud your work. Thank you for making such wonderful films.
Yes, you do deserve a long, long break. You have put a lot of work into making the films mentally and physically and now you have earned your well deserved rest. I will buy all the movies, again. I have all the copies currently available already and I hope to buy them again. Please tell we there will be a six movie set and a three movie set for the prequel trilogy.
More bull from the mind of mickey suttle. Watch the "Empire of dreams" documentry on the DVD box set and youll relise that Lucas didnt want to direct the films. He asked Kirshner to direct ESB and Marquand to direct ROTJ. He didnt want to direc tthem and was happy with the way they turned out. I cant stand this guy!!!!!
