I'm not saying u shouldn't study languages, it can just be confusing and difficult. Hell, english is pretty hard, and I've been speaking it all my life.

Things that aren't confusing and complicated can hardly be interesting 🙂

English... imo often sounds like a constructed language, and a quite uncreatively constructed language, by somebody who loved making wonderful words like "candescence" or "mortality", but it took him a while to discover the craft of making those words, and first his aim was only to create an easy langauge, a logical language, a practical language, one with simple and short words..... but those short words made him see how beautiful words can be and what amazing sentences you can create with them, and so he started inventing totally different words that sounded kinda strange in context with the first words, but all in all gorgeous
ok lol
so far on english 😛

Now for german "he" must have though
let's create an ugly language
an illogical one
nobody will ever understand
let's cause misinterpretation and a language that always sounds like audial war

😛

why Cyne...do i get the feeling you don't like the german language????

@sauron>> 😆

men in tight leather then

people being 'plugged'

I've always wondered y there are 10 or more words that describe one thing. We only use one or two of those words. Almost no one ever uses the big fancy words. When I make my own language, there will be, for everything imaginable, a normal word and a fancy way to say it.

interestingly enough, all the languages except for the romance languages of western europe are called indo-european...just because there are some words that are similar in meaning and spelling???

The Roman language are also Indoeuropean
Just not Germanic like nearly all the others in Western Europe 'xcept for the beautiful celtic ones for example... WELSH 😱 😱

They are from the same family not because some words are similar... but because the words are brothers 😄
There are also words similar in Latin and Eldarin for example 🙄 like sindarin nara- = Latin Narrare 😉 or Quenya ulunde has a similar meaning to Latin unda.

But the Germanic ones are really siblings, the grammar, the structure, the vocabulary, everything 🙂

Even stronger for the Roman ones

Only for Finnish and Hungarian they could never decide where they actually come from so they just called the lingual root "finno-ungric" 😂

how does elvish fit in to the indo-european tree, or is it seperate?

aww cya Alex 🙁

the talk about languages makes me sick 😖 As I have French & Sp exams coming up soon... *joy*

@AE especially in English there are very often several words for one meaning
One "norse" (germanic) one and one Roman one
Caused by the different invadings of different people in the earlier history, before and in the middle ages

Like, there were the Danes... brought norse words... the simple ones and more commonly used in normal language... for example all the pronouns and demonstrativa, like you, she, that, this, the, a and so on
And then there were the Frenchies.. or their ancestors... bringing Roman-rooted words, like all the beautiful ones I named before 😄 candescence for example
They became the lords while the common folk rather used the norse-influenced language
hence if there are two words for one meaning, the germanic one is the one that is more commonly used and an "easy" word while the roman one is more specifical, technical or "noble"
for example the words for supporting someone
there's "help" - germanic, like german "Hilfe".......... if you have a serious problem, you cry "HELP!!"
You'd never say "aid"
Aid is roman
like french aider = to help, to support
this root is also found in loads of more complicated construcions - "?auxilary verb" (cant even write it) or stuff like that (not sure bout that one)

Totally seperate

Though Tolkien was of course influenced by Indo-european phonology for example

Of course his languages won't sound like some african bush dialect
Or like Chinese

Whatever

* fini looks to see what you all talking about*

okay Sauron...wanna let the cat out the bag???
this is what sauron wrote to me....😖
