What Is The Meaning Of Life?

Started by Pandemoniac52 pages

Life has no meaning, it only has a purpose: get born, grow up and hump yourself silly in order to create enough offspring so your species will survive, and then die ASAP when you become of lesser use so the young have more space and food.
Just because us humans stumbled upon some self awareness we are suddenly supposed to have a higher meaning to life?

Is this thread asking for the meaning of Human life, or all life in general? 'Cause far as we can tell, asking for the purpose of all life is like asking the meaning of existence. Non-sentient life seems to serve no purpose, or rather, no ability to comprehend a purpose. It doesn't question its meaning like we do.

my purpose in life is to serve God myself and humanity. for the better.

all life. Life does not need to understand it's meaning or purpose to have one. Inanimate objects don't understand or even know of their purposes........does not negate the fact that their purposes do indeed exist.

Yep, There are even things invisible to our naked eye that have purpose...Though we might not understand it.

What if all three of those come into conflict, I wonder?

Why give life to others if life itself is meaningless?

The meaning of life is mystery. The purpose of life is to uncover it, hopefully with joy, passion and awe. The biological aspect of this purpose--reproduction--ensures someone will be around to continue pondering the mystery.

I like that...........

except there is so much life that's on our planet which lacks the ability to ponder, negating the need to reproduce to ensure the pondering continues. Still........great post being as we are in the philosophy forum.

Thanks.
Perhaps pre-intelligent life's "purpose" is to provide the working environment for us mental types, since, after all, we could not have evolved/thrived in a bio-vacuum.

Ah, philosophy. This and $2 gets you a ride on the bus.

People have said it but...

42.

My answer: I don't know, but it most likely won't be found in a forum.

😂

I know, but I won´t tell anyone !

The meaning to life is TO HAVE FUN!!!

I believe in reincarnation indeed. But not everyone does, and i cant prove if its true or not, so im looking at the meaning of life from a rational point of view.

We live and we die so that others may live. Its just the way it is. Evolution hasnt got a goal or a purpose, it just happens and we are a product of it. (simplisticly speaking)

Lil Bitchiness I beleive that Reincarnation is totally possible.

If you examine the fact that "Matter or Energy cannot be created or destroyed, only changed"
We already know that when our bodies decompose, they go back into the Earth. They do not "cease to exist"

The same can be said for the Mind, which is a connection of Nuerons, our thoughts are electrical messages...consists of energy, energy cannot be destroyed, only altered.

So the energy that exists in our mind....becomes something else eventually.

Now our identities...our souls....our memories....what becomes of them?
What becomes of the ACTUAL being that we are ? That is the hard question I beleive.

If you beleive in Reincarnation, then you should also beleive that we carry something of our past lives to this one. I find it very hard to beleive that we START from SCRATCH.....

I believe our identities are who we are, and we always keep them, if there is reincarnation....which I'm leaning towards.....It's just the experiences that change, and to know this would ruin the experience.

If life has no meaning, then we will never be able to understand that since our consciousness only undersntand "meanings". We cannot understand something that has no meaning. To understand is to give a meaning.

True, though you must have understanding in our consciousness, on what level could it still have meaning if not understood by our consciousness, but perceived by our unconsciousness....Could it still have meaning on another level...?

I tend to agree with Cline. Life is meaningless only if we want it to be meaningless or let it be meaningless. Meaning cannot be imposed from the outside. If a person' s life has meaning, it is because of what that person values - and that, in turn, relies upon the character and experiences of that person as an individual.

Storm i totally agree 100%
