Absolutely. It's insane what kids (people under the age of 18) are saying, doing, and wearing now.

I am totally afraid to have kids, just because I know what they'll be exposed to. By that time, I'll probably feel the need to home school 'em.

I'll be the first to admit that I was no angel. And I grew up WAY too fast...but even with everything I was exposed to and experienced, I'm sure it all pales in comparison to what's going on today..

I was no 'angel' myself. But my parents always kept me in line. Discipline is the way to keep them in check.

Discipline has nothing to do with it.

It has to do with what kids are exposed to. Besides, parents can't discipline actions they don't know about. Kids are never going to be honest in what they tell their parents they're up to. My parents weren't, I wasn't, and I don't expect my kids to be.

The key, I think, is communication. Rather than trying to shield them from things they can't, parents need to talk with their kids about these things. Most parents avoid talking about things like sex and drugs, like the plague. But it needs to be done. (And often!) Kids listen to their parents more than parents think. Also, praise and rewards for good behavior are both far more effective than simply punishing bad behavior.
