Fantastic Four movie disscussion

it does sound bad with alba, but i think chilkis, gruffudd and mcmahon are good actors and might just save the movie, but itll need a great script and good effects, especially for the thing and dooms costume. if it doesnt itll be as bad as catwoman

Yeah besides Alba the cast seems almost decent but the low budget and bad director might just spoil any chances of it being any good. Catwoman might actually be a better film than FF unfortunately.

scared

i havent seen anything by tim story, so i cant pass judgement

but as for the small budget, that is messed up, fantastic four's one of marvels biggest licenses, surely it should get the same budget as the first xmen or spiderman movie at least.

A Review of the Fantastic Four Script

Ain't-It-Cool-News has posted a look at the Fantastic Four movie script. Here's a clip;

This is a more intimate origin story than, say, X-MEN. Juggling multiple characters with personalities this strong can be tricky, especially when you're also trying to build a world-threatening scenario to challenge them. The solution they've come up with here is to tie in the film’s primary threat to the origin of the FF, and the way they've done it might work for mainstream audiences even as it makes the most ardent purist fanboys absolutely bugsh*t.

Chris Evans Talks Fantastic Four

Chris Evans, who stars as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch in next summer's Fantastic Four, talked to ComingSoon.net while promoting his new thriller "Cellular".

It's tough to say no to superhero. I think it's every little kid's dream is to be a superhero. What guy here didn't wrap a towel around their shirt and run around the living room…I had Dr. Doom growing up; I had the action figure of Dr. Doom. And he kicked a lot of ass as I remember. I didn't know much about this one in particular. As soon as I read the script, I went out and bought some of the comic books just before the audition to brush up a little bit. And it was cool cause I had some buddies who were like "Dude, Fantastic Four!" I think within the Marvel family, it's up there…I was reading some article on the internet that said that Fantastic Four is first royal family of comic books.

ET's Maria Menounous Joins Fantastic Four

September 15, 2004

Entertainment Tonight correspondent and host of ET on MTV, Maria Menounos, will star in 20th Century Fox's Fantastic Four and has landed a deal for an arc on The WB's "One Tree Hill". She also will guest star on the September 20 episode of UPN's "One on One," says The Hollywood Reporter.

Menounos joins Jessica Alba, Michael Chiklis, Chris Evans, Ioan Gruffudd and Julian McMahon in Fantastic Four, based on the Marvel comic. The film follows four astronauts who, during an experimental space mission that went awry, are genetically and physically altered after being exposed to cosmic radiation. Reed Richards gains the ability to stretch and contort his body; Sue Storm is able to become invisible and create force fields; Johnny Storm can light himself on fire and fly; Ben Grimm becomes a rock-like being with super human strenght. Together they use their powers to fight the evil plans of their nemesis, Victor Von Doom.

Menounos will play a nurse who is romanced by Evans' character, the Human Torch, in the Tim Story-directed production.

War of the Worlds vs. Fantastic Four
Source: The Hollywood Reporter
September 16, 2004

While 20th Century Fox first set a July 1, 2005 release date for its Marvel Comics adaptation Fantastic Four, Paramount Pictures has now moved the Steven Spielberg-directed and Tom Cruise adaptation of H.G. Wells novel "The War of the Worlds" two days earlier, to Wednesday, June 29.

The current situation would give Fantastic Four four days to tally up a big box office, since the Fourth lands on a Monday, but now "Worlds" has positioned itself for an even bigger six day box office opening.

The Hollywood Reporter says neither studio is backing down so far. "'Fantastic Four' is in the league of 'X-Men' and 'Spider-Man,' and over the last two summers those movies have opened to an average of over $100 million," Fox executive vp marketing Jeffrey Godsick said. "'Fantastic Four' has been shooting for a while and looks to be true to its name -- fantastic." The trade says Paramount declined comment for the article.

It's nothing new for Fox though, as Paramount previously scheduled Cruise sequel "Mission: Impossible 3" on the same date, June 29, before pushing it back a year to make way for "Worlds". "Worlds" will face a much tighter post-production schedule than "Four".

The only other wide release on July 1st is Disney's animated "Chicken Little," which Fox views as family-oriented counterprogramming that would not compete directly with "Four".

Scoops From the Fantastic Four Set

Cinescape has a first look a The Thing sculpture and two sets. Here's a clip, with some spoilers...

Right next door to the old gas station the production has built a store exterior for the "Kirby Gallery", the art gallery where we're told the sculptures of blind artist Alicia Masters will be on display... During the course of the FANTASTIC FOUR movie, Ben/The Thing will first be introducted to Alicia's creations when he passes by the front of the gallery and spots a sculpture of his rocky visage displayed in the front window. Gripped by what he initially believes is someone trying to profit from his misfortune, The Thing enters the art gallery and has his encounter with Alicia. It's here that the seeds of their friendship are first planted.

Hit the link above for pictures from the set and more of the report. Meanwhile, 'Mrs. S' sent in a bit about the gas station...

I live in the great movie city of Vancouver, BC. On Monday, Sept 13th, my husband and I were out walking along a relatively busy street and we came across someone building a set. My husband asked what it was for. The Fantastic Four, which I hadn't known til then that they were making. The set being built was of an old fashioned gas station. They were aging the metal and putting up a gate and there were two old style gas pumps by the gate. Very cool!

First Look at The Thing!

Hollywood North Report has scored the first pictures of Michael Chiklis in his The Thing makeup and bodysuit on the Vancouver Fantastic Four set!

The first thing (sorry couldn't resist) you'll notice is the massive width of Chiklis in the suit... he literally looks to be over 350 pounds in weight but very short and stocky with massive legs and feet.

Check out the pictures and tell me what you think.
