It Ain't Easy Being Thing!
Source: Superhero Hype!
September 20, 2004

Superhero Hype! has learned from inside sources that Ben Grimm actor Michael Chiklis may have wished by the end of filming Fantastic Four that they had gone with a CGI Thing rather than prosthetics.

Apparently after the first week of filming, the ever lovin' blue eyed actor started really feeling the effects of the suit. The bulky costume, with its big hands, feet, etc., is so thick that the actor can't feel anything the entire time he's in the costume. Chiklis has experienced a sensory deprivation, of sorts. Adding to the discomfort is the fact that no cooling system was added to the costume. Between takes they are having to break it open and cool him off with fans.

As you may have seen from recent pictures the costume has a retro look more faithful to the earlier "lumpy" incarnation of The Thing. Despite the hardships, Chiklis and the production are pressing on.

First Look at Sue Storm in Fantastic Four!
Source: USA Today
September 20, 2004

USA Today has published this first picture of Jessica Alba as Sue Storm in 20th Century Fox's anticipated Fantastic Four adaptation. Here's how they describe the four members:

• Jessica Alba, 23, star of TV's Dark Angel, is Sue Storm, also known as the Invisible Woman, who has a romance with Reed.

• Welshman Ioan Gruffudd, 30, goes from Lancelot in King Arthur to scientist Reed Richards, whose Mr. Fantastic has the ability to stretch.

• Chris Evans, 23, currently seen in Cellular, is Sue's bro Johnny, a cocky pilot who turns up the heat as the Human Torch.

• The most recognizable face is also the most covered. Veteran actor Michael Chiklis, 41, of TV's The Shield, will grumble his way through the role of Ben Grimm, aka the Thing, a boulder-bodied mound of power whose battle cry is "It's clobberin' time!"

You can check out the full article at the link above where it also states that the cast is signed for two sequels.

Fantastic Four Set Pics!
Plus, the latest casting buzz.
September 20, 2004 - IGN FilmForce has scored some photos from the Vancouver set of Fantastic Four thanks to our very own Chris Stewart. While there are no shots of the cast, the pics show the Kirby gas station as well as the Kirby Gallery where Ben Grimm's love interest Alicia Masters works.

Chris said he "didn't have much time to snap pics (used my buddies camera – what a day to leave mine at home charging), so you can't see that to the left of the gate are some wooden, abstract sculpture, and to the right is a small garden. Back and to the left is a fake iron starways into the Kirby Gallery building. Whether the two are actually supposed to be right next to one another or it's just clever location use, I don't know. Anyhow, the two best features were the Kirby Gas logo (nice!) and the fake billboard (actually, it's a real billboard, only it's a fake ad. Actually, mabye it's not a fake ad, but this isn't New York, so it's kind of pointless)."

He adds that, "Despite public pronouncements about being longtime fans of the comics (standard PR op), two cast members have been regulars at a Yaletown comic shop asking for FF comics for research. I guess they can't all be Nic Cages, eh?"

In related news, Superhero Hype claims that actors Kerry Washington (Save the Last Dance) and Hamish Linklater (Live from Baghdad) have been added to the cast of Fantastic Four. SHH didn't know which roles they are playing but The Comic Reel says Washington will portray Alicia Masters.

SHH also reports that John Ottman (X2: X-Men United) will compose the film's score. And for word on a possible filming location, click here.

Finally, Hollywood North Report has posted the clearest spy pic yet of Michael Chiklis as The Thing.
