as for the height part, i wouldnt care what height the thing was as long as he looked good, he can be short and brilliantly created and i'd be happy.
i think some of us are just so dissapointed with grims costume, thats all.

They could have just as easily given him some type of heel, stilt, etc. or use a taller actor to make the Thing taller so saying it would be easier movie wise is not neccessairly true. They have never been five feet tall and even if they were at one point in time the fact remains that 90-95 percent of time they are taller than that.
What I meant was that even IF The Thing managed to look half decent I would still be distracted by the fact the he is only 5 feet tall and that everyone else around him in the film is taller than him.
