The fact that the 1994 and 2004 costumes are even equal to eachother or that the 1994 costume is better is a shame considering the new FF film has about 100 million more dollars to work with. The older version had an animatronic face and was taller than Chicklis. I think a CGI Thing or fully animatronic Thing would be alot better in my oppinion.
Noted; Now lets step back and take in consideration there is more to this movie then just Ben Grimm...Like lets say Human Torch, jessica Alba and Reed, who will have to undergo extreme CGI to look cool, and since we know nothing of that, lets just hush.
Sets, anyone? Current day and age set-building is aprox 2 to 3 times more expensive then it was back in '94. technological advancement always goes hand in hand with more money that needs to be used as the tech advances. Now lets take in consideration exactly what kind of sets we are atalking about here.....They're rebuilding the friggin biggest bridge in America.....Oh, they also build Von Doom's HQ from scratch, just thought you'd be intrested in knowing that.
Now that we've covered that, lets go to the actual amout of people you'll need to build it, What? You think all those hundreds of people are going to work aprox 8 to 9 months for free cuz Jessica Alba has a hot butt? nah, they'll be wanting a pay-check every month, and since this is a hazardous working ground, lets add 9.7% dangerous expences as well....
Im not even going into the real crew salary, all im saying is that marvel isnt paying their heavy hitters.
Alba is getting 2 mill. Chiklis beein the most paid cast member somewhere around 4,5 mil.
Do the math. You can only do so much with 100 mil. Its really not that big a budget when you think about it. Tom Cruise gets payed more then that...Gosh.
oh yeah, the 100 mil includes advertising this movie worldwide as well. Point, set, match.

1. Please don't try to educate me on the filming process, budgets, etc. I already know all of that.
2. The budget has nothing to do with the fact that the Thing's costume looks terrible. The most that can be wasted on a rubber, latex etc. costume is 1 million dollars.
3. The same people who made Hellboy's costume in Hellboy are the people who made the Thing's costume. The budget for Hellboy was 60 million dollars. The quality of the costumes depends on the choices and designs made by the people involved.
4. The 100 million dollars being spent to make the film is only to make the film. The marketing costs is something else. For example, Spider-Man 2's budget was 210 million and the marketing costs were 50 million.

1) Didnt seem like it at first impression.
2) I point to you; The very first X-Men pics were horrible as well, when everyone saw the movie they were like "hey, tahts pretty cool". Im betting you can remember how serieusly bashed their costumes were when the first pics arrived.
3) There is a difference between full-body make up and an actual costume. Thing is far more complex then any of the hellboy characters that wore costumes as oposed to full-body make up.
4) I may have been wrong, i think i read somewhere the 100 mil was all included, but for the love of mike i cannot remember where.
I'd like to get into some more stuff about this movie, if you were up to it 🙂

1. Maybe you shouldn't assume then
2. Don't remember the bashing of the X-Men movie sorry. 😉
3. Hellboy and FF are alike in some ways considering they both only have two characters that need severe costumes, make-up, etc. Abe Sapien and Hellboy. In FF it's the Thing and Dr. Doom. So the costs of producing these things do not very so greatly.
4. I'm up to debating some more. 🙂

1) We all have our weaknesses.
2) To bad. It was monumental.
3) Take a good look at Hellboy, whats he got? A big hand, a big foot and 2 litle round things on his head, heck; given the resources, *i* could do that. Abe is indeed more intresting, but then again, he is *just* a fish thingie with very smooth skin and a few facial features. They made stuff like Abe for the Kirk star trek in a lesser degree.
Thing however; will be a different story. Not only do you have the problem of the enourmus amount of weight the costumes brings with it. ( All the Batman guy's said their costumes were just, to, heavy, take in retrospect what the Thing would weigh O_O). Chiklis has already complained about breathing problems, back and neck problems due to the weight and heat this costume puts on him alone.
Also; he's a natural occurence, or stone. Creating a stone thing and having it look real is very, very hard when a person has to carry it around. Then paint it orange and you'll get a fiasco whatever happens.
We havent seen Doom, yet. But how hard can an iron guy with a Green Cloak be? i cant imagine anyone f*cking it up. if they do somehow manage to screw him over, it'll be the end of F4.
4) Alba is the best cast member so far next to Doom, proove me wrong 🙂

1. My point was not to prove which costumes are more complicated. I was just saying that the prices did not vary greatly for the suits, costumes, etc. in these two films.
2. Some of the same processes used to make the new Thing costume was used in the 1994 FF film. In the end the costume's cost does not go over 1 million.
3. Hollywood has ways of ruining the most simple of things.
4. Do you mean Alba's character or Alba herself?

1) The harder the design, the more it costs. As usual T_T
2) Yeah; however; They cant remake it, as they seem to have this desire to best that movie. Which they will do in all departments, except for the Thing, unless they bring out some serieusly heavy hitters in the CGI department. Who's doing the CGI anyway? havent heard anything about that as of yet.
3) Alba as an actor. She's probably the best call next to Chiklis and the Nip/Tuck guy . Lets face it, none of these actors are what one would call "great" actors, so i'll go by the standard the movie has set, not the fans.

1. His costume is not as expensive as you might think. They would be better off with animotronics.
2. I have heard of the company doing the CGI for FF however I don't remember their company name. I do know that they are not very famous or known though.
3. Alba is a terrible actress the rest of them are untalented too. I'm not expecting any great performance from any of them. The cast might be a great set of actors for a TV series but not for a film.
Chilkis is a great actor, he always was, he can pull it off as well as anyone imo.
mcmahon i believe has the ability to pull it off, whether he will or not i don't know but i am optiomistic.
Gruffud (i hope my spelling is right), is actually a decent actor, hes more a stage thespian kinda one, hes been doin dramas for years on the bbc, king arthur was a shambles and i don't believe should be taken into account.
Evans showed in cellular he actually can act a little, whether he can be a good torch is open to debate.
Alba, no no no no no. i loved dark angel, it was a great show and ended before its time, but alba was never a great actress, she will have to pull off a minor miracle to be a good sue richards.
Money wise, there is no excuse for how bad thing looks, with the technology we have available, its a disgrace imo. animatronics and a little cgi would make a huge improvement. whether they'll sort it out before the movie i don't know, but i hope so.

Exactly. Thats what I have trying to tell everyone this whole time.
As for Chicklis's acting or anyone else's in the film, I belive its a matter of oppinion.

New pictures of Jessica Alba as Susan Storm on the Vancouver set of Fantastic Four turned up online today and you can view them HERE. Susan Storm is, of course, the Invisible Woman in the 20th Century Fox adaptation, who not only can become invisible at will but can render other objects invisible.
Stay tuned for more on Fantastic Four soon.
