I think we will do it in about 170 years or so.
What somebody could do is to leave the majority of their money in their will, which would, in the future, go to fund a time-travel project. However, one of the conditions of them using your money is that they travel back in time to when you are still alive, and give you loads of advanced technology and money and historical records of the next 100 years.

You only say that it is perfect because you imagined in your head that it is perfect.
but like you were saying... if we erase who we've become through our experiences, we'd just wind up being an empty shell in the end.
Look at the past.... how people learn, to be "perfect"... people learn from mistakes... that is the natural tradition of becoming perfect... Time travel is yet too complicated to understand, and to predict what is going to really happen... Maybe it is yet to be proven impossible... As Philosophicus said, "imperfection is perfection"...

I just did a quick calculation and found that to travel at the speed of light it would require you to travel 450 billion km for 35 days... and that's at an acceleration of 100m/s/s which is probably too much for the human body to handle.
anyway... I don't think time travel would be possible even if we were able to travel at light speed. Perhaps we would be able to look at the past but we would not be able to interact with it...
for example,
if I were to travel away from the earth at a speed faster than the speed of light I would be travel forward through 'light waves' and, I guess, this could be interpreted as travelling backward through time. Looking behind I would see events reversing and when I stopped travelling I would see the past.
However, when travelling back to earth I would be travelling back through the 'light waves'. I would be seeing the light waves faster than I would normally be seeing them and time would appear to be moving faster.
Therefore, when I returned to earth time will not have changed...
if that made any sense to anyone 😛
ok, i have read some books regarding the subject so let me lay it out for you:
According to Einstiens theory of special relativity, at speeds close to the speed of light, time and space are "warped", that is that time seems to slow down and distances seem to contract. this is actually proven. there was an experiment done that went like this: An atomic clock was placed in a jet and another that was identical was placed on the ground. the jet flew at super-sonic speeds for a while and when it landed, it had "ticked"slower than the one on the ground. so this proves special relativity.
so acording to this, if a person traveled extrememly fast then they would have experienced less time that everything else. Thus time travel, because what is time travel but time going faster for everything else except you. so that is time travel into the future.
time travel into the past however is impossible unless several, very strict, requirements are met. The first is that the many worlds theory is true. that is the theory that every time an atom comes to a "cross roads" the universe splits and in one universe, the atom took one path and in the other, the atom took the other path. so as you can imagine there would be many many universes and you would need to find a wormhole to travel between them (which opens up a whole new contoversy that i won't go into) and the chances of you finding a universe that is even slightly similar to your own are very slim. the other condition is that even if you found a time machine, then (as was said before) you could only travel, at most, to the moment the machine was created. so for large scale travel into the past to be possible, you would need to find a time machine that has exsisted for a VERY long time.
WHEW *wipes sweat off of forehead*, well that concludes me very long explaination on time travel. I'm off to go post on the "what do you think about death" thread about death and the many worlds theory.
you know i was reading this very interesting book about time and what exactly it is. it is very possible that we could have a parallel universe opposite of ours, were time would run backwards in our opinion. proof of these two worlds coexisting together is kind of complicated, but it basically means that as long as each parallel space does not become stronger than the other, they can exist side by side. this can eventually lead to time travel (who knows) if it was ever possible to figure out...that be goddamn cool, but freaky!!

I have read about Tesla. Books like "Angels don't play this Harp." They are manipulating the weather, and screwing things up. And also the Gov. program GWEN. using frequency waves and such, can cause earthquakes, but that is another thread.
Astronauts say that wen they're in space that their clocks slow down. So they are aging slower than the people on Earth (when they are in space).
