It's already larger than it used to be.

And it's very, very easy to have a high image quality and still remain under 50kb.

when i mean high quality i mean it has alot of effects in it. i would post a link to it, but i can't sense it won't let me

Having a lot of effects does not make it high quality.

And as I said. It's pretty easy to make a sig that retains its image quality and yet is under 50kb.

Yes, actually, it is incredibly easy to do so. Most graphics programs have some sort of built-in image optimization and Photoshop even has one specifically for saving images to use online.

I swear to god this type of post comes up every week or two.

If you don't know how to optimize a signature's graphics while keeping it under 50kb, I'd suggest you PM Lana for assistance, Tutorial it, or figure it out yourself. It's not hard.

If you're using Photoshop, just "Save Optimized As"

Well....... when i see a post about sig file sizes....i immediately think animation...now there is no amount of optimizing and cutting corners that will retain the animated sigs quality.....now i am not talking about minor animated sigs,i am talking real busy and lots of colors etc.... it cant be done, i have tried and even tested the limits to its max....i just administer my own site and i make the more busy animated sigs there...but i do agree about the standard sig...you can retain high quality and keep it under 50kb

Actually yes, it is possible to optimize animated GIFs to lower the file size without losing visual quality.

Though I'll state that personally I have yet to see a busy animated sig that wasn't blinding ermm

Don't save it as a PNG and use Save for Web. Problem solved, sheesh.

See? Looks identical and yet the file size is nearly half of the one you posted.

Side by side comparison, exactly the same.

And Lana, the one you posted is closer to 1/4th the file size, even better.

Really? Wow. Save For Web told me it'd be about 45kb (as I saved it at 98% quality) 😛 Nice.

If you were a mod it wouldn't matter as we can't do that sort of thing. Only Raz could implement it, if it's even possible.

Not that that sort of thing actually entirely stops bots.

I like the suggestion, it will also keep out idiots. I'd say half of KMC would not be here if a simple math equation was the entry requirement.
