not if its done humanitarily without pain, and its well-treated until it is killed. A cow in the wild doesn't live very long, and can starve do death in winter, or catch a disease. A cow on a farm also doesn't live very long, but it gets fed and cared for by the farmer, who will willingly pay for a vet when it is ill.
Thing is though... There is no humane way to kill an animal, at least no way to do it and still have it be edible when it's done. Somebody asked about what they were doing to the cow... I should think that would be obvious, they were killing it. I believe draining an animal's blood is a fairly common way to slaughter it, as awful as that may seem.
However, people need to realize that very few farmers treat animals, even meat animals, like that. For one thing, it's illegal, so the people in the film can and should be shut down. I think the whole thing was rather misleading, just because it is taken almost entirely out of context... Many people will watch that and assume most animals are treated that way before being slaughtered, which is totally untrue. Or that it's perfectly legal, which is also totally untrue. I like animals, but PETA has always bugged me.
