OK, since you said singer, I'm taking it to imply not a vocalist like MJK; i wouldn't exactly call most of what he does singing.

Male Singer: Marvin Gaye. This one's easy, it's between Marvin Gaye and Al Green, and I like Gaye better

Female Singer: Tougher choice, but I'm gonna have to go with Aretha Franklin.

Solo male singer-Elvis or Barry White

Male Singer in a band: Billy Corgan

Solo female singer: Billy Holidae

Female Singer in a band: ...i guess the chick from the "yeah yeah yeahs"

elton john and dylan are good singers aswell. fiona is a good female singer

A load of great female vocalist though but I have to go for someone who make their own music so Kate Bush because of the distinctive sound in her voice

best female vocals- not really into any music that has a womens vocals on it. michelle branch does a good job on American Girls and Big Yellow Taxi for Counting Crows so i will pick her.

i will have to agree with amy lee... she has a very nice voice on her(despite what alpha centauri says)
and i would have to say the lead singer of Fuel would have to be my favorite male vocalist...
