Yep. It is SSM's first arc, called "The Hunger"--and the symbiote is not nice to Eddie at all in this book at this time. This arc precedes and sets up Tsunami's Venom title.
At first, I didn't like the art and I hated the proportions, but the more that I read and the more I looked at SSM's version of Brock, the more I started to like him.
And, yes, I've got the next page here somewhere...
I can't imagine a good justification for changing the sym's persona so radically... oh, wait. That's right. PMS. It must have just hit the low point, or something.
Yes, I love the moodiness of the art, and the way Humberto rounds the faces, that really works for the vulnerability of Eddie in this arc.
Still, I feel like this kind of radical departure/re-envisionment of a charactor belongs somewhere else, not in 616 continuity.
It disturbs me. I think of Eddie's sym as emotionally nurturing and almost phlegmatic when it comes to disagrrements with him- not controlling and demeaning and exploitative. It's like the V sym is channeling Kasady, or something, it's this blunt reversal of that much more crude relationship. I always thought of Venom as the most evolved of the symbiosi.
Is that a word? What's plural for symbiosis? Uh, symbiosisses? Symbiosum?

I initially saw Eddie portrayed as fearful and weak the first time I read this, and I didn't think I would enjoy the character at all, but as I said before, there's more to it--he demonstrates more trust and piety, two very redeeming human attributes to me personally, and so naturally I was powerless to avoid the charm of the new version of Eddie Brock.
Physically, when I first saw him I thought he was just entirely too large. And the face I thought was all wrong, and wasn't wild about the baldness, but eventually loved that it WAS so different--and that THAT was precisely the point.

if you want this thread to remain open youve got to follow some rules and guidlines.
1st. stop asking for pictures of someone with a symbiote. unless you know a certain drawing exist, or you want a scan from a specific comic, its simply a waste of our time. If you want a pic, state the specific comic(or aas close as you can) and what scene shot.
2. try to keep the grammer here flowing. when you use bad spelling and typing, it degrades the whole thread and makes it drift into lala land.
3. try to be goal oriented. specify your general topic and focus on it until your finished. dont change gears when one single person makes a stupid post unrelated to the current subject. unless its a valid point*
(now i just hope Paola doesnt kill me...)
