Exactly! I can't believe they still refuse to play the episode. Yet they can show episodes of two boys kissing, a girl getting raped, another girl having an STD. . . . .makes no sense. The N knew when they picked up Degrassi that they dealt with sensitive topics. So there's no excuse.
Great point Rogue. That is a little stupid if they can show all those things but not Accidents Will Happen 🙄
Yeah both Jake and Lauren are going to be on Radio Free Rasco. So interesting that I've known this since like last summer, and now we're just now seeing the episode.
Oh and Lauren Collins (Paige) is going to be on an upcoming episode as well.
as for the Accidents Will Happen thing, the N is stupid. Nuff said.
Man, that episode where Craig was "bipolar" was bullshit. That's such cliche crap. There were some parts of his portrayal that touched on truth, but for the most part it was Hollywood ridiculousness. Tv and movies have a horrible history of botching the reality of these disorders to make it seem more interesting on their show.
And btw, before you all get pissed off at me, I am both a Degrassi fan and a Psychology major. So there. 🙂
Hi periera, welcome to the Degrassi thread!
I sorta agree with you, but I have 2 major reason why Craig being bi-polar was a problem for me.
1.) It came out of nowhere. This episode only showed Craig having weird mood swings and BAM let's slap a disorder on it. If we had of seen this disorder building for a few episodes, maybe it would be more beliveable but it totally came out of nowhere for me.
2.) Secondly, couldn't they have made another character bi-polar. I love Craig as much as the next guy, but I'm a little Craiged-Out. We saw him in Neutron Dance, followed by these 2 episodes and let me tell ya, that's not all. You'll see Craig MUCH more. For Jimmy and Hazel to be so close as boyfirend and girlfriend, I found it ridiculous that Hazel NEVER visited him in the hospital. The only person who you saw with Jimmy in the hospital is: Craig. (and marco, but that was 1 time only)
- Surely they could have given another character this disease. Where's Liberty? JT? Toby? Hazel?
3.) They didn't educate the audience. I had no idea what being bi-polar meant. When Ashley said that Craig was bi-polar, she didn't explain whawt that meant. It's like they expected the audience to automatically know what it was. I had to go look it up! And you shouldn't have to do that when watching a TV show.
Degrassi is good .. . .but it defaintly has their share of problems.
I couldn't agree more with you on #1. Bipolar is a VERY complicated disorder (so complicated that it's split into 2 separate axes in the DSM IV) so Craig just having it out of the blue was completely ridiculous. People are born with Bipolar, it's a hereditary disease not just something that you acquire out of the blue. And though people with Bipolar do suffer manic ups and downs periodically, I don't think it turns them into the raving lunatic that Craig portrayed. Also, at the very end, the fact that he's just automatically been diagnosed with Bipolar and given medications almost instantaneously is erroneous as well. Psychiatrists won't prescribe medication to people without first seeing them for 6 months. (They probably won't diagnose them with any disorder before that time, either, not sure).
Sorry if I come off sounding pretentious, it's just that i love psych!!!
I am totally with ya! And no, I love th at you love psychology, you can bring the real facts into this discussion.
To sum it all up, I think they completly did the bi-polar things wrong. I wish they'd had some building of this story, because I'm wondering several things. When did this bi-polar thing happen with Craig? Does that explain Craig's weird behavior in like some of the episodes?

Im kind of sick of Craig, let a less known character have a bigger part...
That's what I'm saying! I'm on Craiged-Out. Let's see someone else for a change!
Spoiler:
And then him and Ashley break up? I'm like, I hope I never see those 2 together again. What a waste of space.
it's because Raz changed the Signature limitations or something I read about it.
Anyways, well I suppose it's the same with Caitlin and Joey. First of all, they're adults. I want to see more of the kids. And I'm ready for Caitlin and Joey to get married! NOT to be still playing the game of break-up, make-up.

I guess I'm just tired of them going in circles with these two. They break-up get back togethere when they were kids, as adults they do the same thing. Enough already!
Get married and move on to the next story. How does Angela deal with a new mommy? Ya know? Next story please.
