Jazz

It's funny both of you specified that you like OLD Armstrong.. I have heard that his earlier work but I'm not really familiar with any of his work, old or new. The only song I really like that I heard was him and Ella Fitzgerald performing the song "Summertime." Great song.

Anyone here like Sun Ra?

Later he moves more towards vocal stuff, and its just not of the same caliber.

I'm not particularly too big on jazz music, it's the sort of thing I've got to be in the mood to listen to.

My uncle is a jazz musician (saxaphone and clarinet mostly) and composer, who is pretty famous, actually, he's always travelling all over the US and Europe to perform. I don't know if anyone here will have heard of him though, his name is Ken Vandermark.

Take Five is the epitome of cool and a cool song, in my opinion.

See what I mean?

You hadn't even heard this, you bastard.

'Listen to this, it's the ultimate cool song'.

Nah, too much bother.

'Stop being an idiot'.

Ok. *takes note for future*

*Two strips of a Kit-Kat arranged in a profane manner*

I wonder how many scenarios you have in your head that are fake, yet you have convinced yourself have happened with me.

Lobbery, ascent, thisetc.

Well I like his voice but I see what you mean as far as songs like "What a Wonderful World" and whatnot.

VVD likes a lot more jazz than I do.

I'm just not overly mad on listening to it, Take Five, although cliche, is my favourite song of the genre. I appreciate the musicians more than the music, to be honest.

All That Jazz....

Does anyone else like jazz in here? If so who is your favorite jazz artist? Mine would be Miles Davis.

P.S. I'm new to jazz but I think most of the jazz I've heard is better than most of what I normally to listen to ( metal, classic rock, etc....).

Charlie Parker if you'd count him as such.

Dave Brubeck. Nina Simone had jazz elements I'd say.

Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald and Mile Davis

^^^Nice ones.

Yep, and I'm pretty surprised that a lot of kids today not only like, but are knowledgeable about jazz.

My grandmother/grandfather were heavily into jazz, so I have them to thank.

I got into jazz because of some show I saw on T.V. that had Miles Davis on it and the internet, other than people I've talked to on the internet I don't know any other jazz fans.

lol, what else can charlie parker be considered?

Jazz music is great when it's at it's best.. extremely soulful dudes like Coltrane and Mingus. But it's such a huge genre, there's a lot of excessively technical bullshit out there too. Jazz artists have the tendency of trying too hard to be avant garde and the end result is unattractive noise.

jazz

the place for all the jazz diggers!!
who's your favourite? why? do you play jazz? Chere the common interest!!!

Dunno, the only Jazz I ever listened 2 were Xpectation and C-note by Prince, and I kinda digged it.

cool. you shoud check out some classics like Miles Davis.

i like the classics, and some of the modern stuff is good too. Thelonious Monk comes to mind.

I mean you've got your classic jazzers like Parker, Coltrane, Miles, Dizzy, Louie, Monk, Basie, ect.. The list goes on...
Then you can get into more different stuff. There is some really great newer people. I recently went to a show at the Hollywood Bowl, and there were some great people, Christian McBride, and some others. It was great.
