I read that somewhere too, like they have enough of an idea outlined for 100 eps, or just over 4 seasons (100 eps also used to be the standard deal in order to earn syndication rights, or something, I think... but I believe those standards are lowered now, depending on the show...), so at least 5 seasons worth, if you include all the crappy filler stuff most dramas do, and considering how LOST drags it out, could go much longer, if fans don't get bored...
also that they could tie it all up with just 3 or 4 'core story eps' if it ever comes to that, the popularity drops off or something... so, it could conceivably be over in just 2 seasons, if they decide so.
which tells me that the whole 'scientific explanation' behind it all must be really easy... Purgatory, Utopian society, Mankind's last best hope? or a bunch of psychos strapped to a Virtual Reality Psycho-Therapy Machine...
could all be explained in just 4 short hours, whenever the Creators decide to do so...

thats what I think too, they will draw it out, the clock will reset to 1/2 the previous value or something else connected to 'the numbers' maybe...
but eventually, will lead to the geothermal reactor power supply, which will melt down/shut down/go out of control, so instead of controlling the heat and power of nature miles beneath the island and ocean surface, it will allow liquid hot magma to erupt from those man-made vents which will ultimately destroy the island...
well, not really destory the island I guess, but will reform the island by fire and lava, the island will actually grow bigger, and be a completely new place in a few hundred/thousand years again... of course, anyone still on the island when the place explodes with hellfire, lava and what not, will not survive to see the great grand new home away from home, but....

only 1 problem...the chinese guy said the "incident" happened and the numbers were put in as a safety.... I don't think it could cause something like that if its already happend once...

That could not possibly happen as it would ruin the island... if It happend it would of left more visable signs that the losties could of seen..
Somehow I doubt that the whole Island will explode or anything happen.. I expect something more minor will happen, which will cause a chain of events that could create something bigger to happen.. But the island exploding??? nar...
maybe the island will only be destroyed if all the clocks, all the timers, all the buttons are ignored and allowed to drop to 0, giving the Losties time to figure it all out.
maybe it used to allow 216 minutes before the incident at the Adam and Eve cave compound reduced the time to 108 minutes.
There was no computer/button at the Tailies compound, so there can't/won't be 4 or 5 more incidents before the 'destruction'/'whatever thing' happens.. maybe just 1 or possibly 2 more incidents before the Big Event occurs
If that clock that reaches 0 really only has 3 digits instead of the 5 from the Swan compound clock, if it's a different clock, in a different hatch, still connected to a button, that obviously implies some sort of concert, connection between the buttons/experiments/incidents, doesn't it?
maybe the incident involved build up of pressure/gases or resulted from the overworked equipment doing whatever it does under the surface, ending in an underground explosion, so the timers were used to turn on/turn off the various whatchyamadoodles around the island, in shifts, to preserve their components, take some of the strain off each unit every 108 minutes, shift the pressures and the gases around under the surface, so nothing builds up again, while still mining the energy and power needed to keep things running up on the surface, for the 'experiments'
so when all the buttons are left unmanned, all the timers allowed to hit 0 or 000 or 00000, all those gases and pressures and what not will be allowed to build up again, uncontrolled, until
KABOOM!
when the one from the preview hits 0, that vent/power source shuts down, and the pressure starts to build, there might be earthquakes, the compound might collapse, but the Survivors will have a chance to escape before the end of that compound...
maybe Ana Lucia will be killed in the explosion/cave-in, and Jack will have been unable to save her. Fans rejoice, Jack will regret, and remorse, and life will go on for awhile back at the Swan compound....
maybe they find another reel of the Orientation film, and when they finally return to camp to watch it, it will explain the buttons, and what they control, and the fact that if any link in the system of controls is allowed to fail, it puts undo stress and strain on the remaining links in the chain of control, which may well lead to a catastrophic event, so please please please, man the buttons and don't let any of them hit 0... of course, this will be long after the fact the other compound destroyed, Ana Lucia dead, and the pressure already building...
OOPS! but, WOW! what drama.. from Dharma!!
just saying that this could be what's involved in the series of 3 or 4 end-all eps to wrap things up, if ever needed... or they reveal pieces of this slowly over the course of 3 or 5 seasons, finally ending with the Catastrophic Event, because it's human nature to 'forget' or to 'experiment' even with 'catastrophy' so eventually, all those buttons will go unpressed, all timers will reach 0, and the whole island experiment will end, in fire and in death...
...or when that clock hits 0, the signal goes up to the mainland control center, and a rescue party is dispatched... just hope they get to the island, get past the Others, the sharks, and the security system monster, in time to save our Losties!!!
I'm still waiting for the ep where they find the Japanese sub commander and try to use his sub to return to the mainland, except Gilligan drive around in a circle and ends up right back on the same island!
Why would you have a system like that??? Its strikes me as silly to have to press a button every 108 mins when you could get a computer todo it automaticaly... The stations were set up todo research, they were not set up to be time bombs. if they had to control the steam/lava/whatever why don't they have the ability to control more??
The button was said to be a SAFETY system... its ment to keeo them safe from something that if left running alone for more then 108 mins would result in a bad thing... I don't think it would be such a bad thing that they couldn't recover from it.. Maybe stops an experiement...
I don't think the cave was a hatch... If you remember there were 2 people who were originaly on the island in the swan hatch.. Perhaps des moved the bodies there... And concidering the amount of things that have crashed on the island its safe to assume it could be just more random people who died there...
I remember there having to be 2 people in each hatch, Desmond saying his partner died, but not mentioning where he left/buried the dead, nor mentioning the cave being the deisgnated tomb/crypt area or anything...
just thought it connected the 2 seasons, the cave having the surface-ground entrance and the 'hatch' escape exit Charlie and Jack climbed/crawled out of after the cave-in...
not saying they invented a system to act as a Self-Destruct mechanism, just babbling really

the bodies washed up from the ocean after a few days, discovered to be victims of the plane crash,
the Steve/Scott murder thing

tailie victims, etc etc
they just left Adam and Eve as Adam and Eve for now, since Season 1...
why would they leave Adam and Eve as 'random dead bodies' without any more random dead bodies thrown in, just because it would be safe to assume there are some/more random dead bodies? even the 'random dead bodies' had stories, so what's Adam and Eve's story, if not the first hatch compound 'incident' victims?

They remain random till we get the back story... For now there are plenty of questions... I don't mean to imply that they don't have a purpose, but we don't know what there purpose is right now... The ship would of had lots of pirates/seamen who would of died on it... they too are clased as random stiffs till we get a story... same with adam and eve... till we get a story they are random stiffs...
There have been plenty of people who have died with little to no story attached to them... so they too are random stiffs/island victims... 2 stiffs who were found by kate and sawyer under the waterfall??? victims... people who died in plane crash... victims/random stiffs.... they hold no purpose other then to remind us that no everyone lives....
