In your opinion yes 😬 To my mind, these women you so fierecly defend know what they're getting into.... I wouldn't be so naive as to believe they're all innocent until some nasty pimp gets them on the game.
No no, I'm not saying they are innocent. I'm saying they are human beings, and whether they choose to get into it or not, there are USUALLY extenuating circumstances. Most of these women, I don't believe, decided as young girls, to grow up and one day become a prostitute.

Thats true, however, some women chose to do this. I am aware that there are women who are forced into doing it, but i also know that there are women who like and chose to do this.
And some are really good at it - like those prostitutes who can put a condom on a man without him knowing it (we learnt about this in Feminism lectures 😛)
If its legal, then it can be better controlled and women who do this kind of think are safer - it could also mean that which ever bastard does something to the prostitute (rape, abuse, even kill) would get quite a few years in jail for it - and they would be treated just like people in any other profession.

Granted, yes, there may be safety issues that come from it being legalized, I agree. I guess I'm still stuck on the stigma that is attached to prostitutes, being that they are objects. As a woman, well, if I WERE a woman, I would find it reprehensible that there was a segment of my own sex out there, who helped to propogate that mentality that all women are for, is sex.
I do however concede, that it is an individual decision, and in looking at the lesser of two evils, perhaps legalization is the answer.
In short, I am sitting on the proverbial fence.
It was interesting to note that right after pretty woman was released (can't remember haw many years ago) and after the Heidi Fliess case, many young woman were looking at prostitutiion as a viable (and for the incredibly uninformed) and glamorous career.
I'm all for legalizing it. It would make it safer for both the prostitutes and the johns, it would cut down on drugs, and it would free up the police to go after more serious criminals and the people who target kids.
So long as it is a personal choice, what a woman wants to do with her body is her choice.
One quick note, whenever people talk about prostititutes they naturally seem to only talk about women. I am guilty of that myself. But men prostitute themselves quite a bit also. This is not just a gender issue.
Moose said," if I WERE a woman, I would find it reprehensible that there was a segment of my own sex out there, who helped to propogate that mentality that all women are for, is sex. ". which begs me to ask, how do you feel about men who prostitute themselves?

I'll vouch for the first point... when I first saw Pretty Woman, as ridiculously naive as it sounds now, I saw prostitution as a good career. Not for myself, personally, but I did think that as long as the women practised safe sex, then it should be ok.

Well said.

Not much better I am afraid. I think that selling your body, the one thing that you truly own (well, not me of course, Syren has the rights to that 🙄 ) is sad. Maybe that is just me...but it seems...smarmy...dirty...and believe me, I have a VERY open mind..

Oh JEEEEEEZ Kez, I KNOW that. I'm not saying people can't do it. 🙄
Uh, well, I was GOING to be a prostitute, but, Moosey said it's not a good idea, so I won't.
I'm just saying that I have misgivings about the whole prostitution racket.

You didn't quote my entire post.... I said naively... I was only about 12 pissed
Prostitutes
Should they be legal? Is it right? I think that if someone wants to have sex for money, and they can find someone to do it with them, go for it. It's their decision and none of our business. If someone gets an STD, it's their fault, they took the chance. It's just like taking a chance with cigarrettes, alcohol and the canadians.
