Ghost Rider and Deadpool movie news

http://www.moviehole.net/news/4224.html

They're going to start filming in January in Victoria, Australia for Ghost Rider. Rumors have it Cage is no longer in the film and they are looking for someone younger. I had grown fond of the idea of Cage in it, but at least they have some definite plans.

Ryan Reynolds, Hannibal King in Blade: Trinity is also interested in playing Deadpool. While this is no new news, interest in the film seemed to have tappered off awhile ago, but has been rekindled, as Reynolds as expressed more interest in getting it off the ground after Blade: Trinity.

The Herald Sun reports that the Ghost Rider production will be headed Down Under. The film will be directed by Daredevil helmer Mark Steven Johnson for Sony Pictures:

TWO big-budget Hollywood movies - one tipped to star heart-throb Nicolas Cage - are set to be made in Melbourne.

Producers of children's classic Charlotte's Web and Ghost Rider, based on the Marvel comic, both want to come to Melbourne to film.

Both production crews want to use the Docklands film studios at the same time early next year.

Ghost Rider to Shoot in Victoria Instead

Moviehole has more on the Ghost Rider filming Down Under...

At a press conference today to discuss the local entertainment industry, Victorian Premier Steve Bracks announced that the highly anticipated "Ghost Rider" will begin shooting at the Central City Studios next January, and will be the most expensive production yet filmed in Victoria.

Shooting is set to begin in January for a Summer, 2006 release date.

Deadpool! Ghost Rider! Im gunna pass out!

Sounds good that they're trying to push both ahead. Been waiting for a Ghost Rider for awhile now.

Do you think there's any chance of Deadpool appearing in the Wolverine movie first in some way and then being a spin off movie? Probably not, but it might be nice.

I'd like Deadpool to be introduced in a Wolverine movie first, as that way he'd be a Fox character, so when they make a DP movie they can use words like "mutant" and fully exploit and lean on the X universe for stuff,\ and tie it all together if need be.

I submitted this news on Ghost Rider to SuperHeroHype a few months ago so by now I'm guessing they must be plenty further into production on the film.

'Spidey150' sent in this cool update on Marvel's Ghost Rider, which Columbia Pictures will distribute...

The new Wizard Magazine was released yesterday issue #153 and I bought a copy. It tells an update on the Ghost Rider movie exactly as follows; "GHOST RIDER" [DIRECTOR] Mark Steven Johnson has turned in the best Ghost Rider story, script, comic or otherwise that we've ever read," said Feige. "The studio fell in love with it and immediately opened up a production office, and he's scouting locations as we speak."

Sweet!

DEADPOOL

Actor Ryan Reynolds is back on the "Blade: Trinity" message boards talking about his brush with the merc-with-a-mouth. "I want to make ['Deadpool'] -- but it would have to be a hard 'R' rating and possess a large budget. not the least of which, they'd need an experienced film maker willing to nurture it every step of the way. that's a combination that studios don't just jump all over. However, there's not many comic book films (other than 'BLADE' and I guess 'Punisher'😉 that are willing to go rated R. so, do i think there's room in the market for a grotesquely scarred, morally flexible mercenary with a penchant for wise cracks and hyper-violence? Yup. It's still being talked about, so we'll see ..."

What TheFilmProphet said above is probably true. No matter how much you'd like to see a Deadpool movie, chances are one won't be made for quite some time.

Exactly.

Well if they did decide to make a deadpool movie i think a good director would be..... Quentin Tarantino. I mean look at kill bill and his other movies (reservoir dogs, pulp fiction etc) he has the limb falling off and blood spuing down to a point where it looks sort of comic style. I think he would make a great director for deadpool. Sure he steals all his ideas from other stuff lol and he only comes out to make a movie every 10 yrs 😛 But he could make a Deadpool movie great.

No, not Tarantino- true; he's kinetic and witty, but he didn't take his charactors to heart in Kill Bill, and I doubt he'd do so in Deadpool. Deapool should be a bit more than a blood-soaked romp to its director. I like what sounded like the actor's dedication to the charactor. That's what is needed in the director, too.
I'm eager to see adult flavors in comic films.

mmmm, adult flavor. Delicious.

Nicolas Cage Talks Ghost Rider!
Source: Empire Online
September 17, 2004

Empire magazine talked to Nicolas Cage about playing Ghost Rider in writer/director Mark Steven Johnson's adaptation, which starts filming this January in Melbourne. Here's a clip...

"What I love about this idea for a comic book is that, if you think about it, it's really complex. Obviously the movie should be fun and it has to have humour but if you think about a superhero who's using the powers of hell for good... I mean, that is a very profound, complicated concept for a superhero," said Cage.

And if that has you thinking Hellboy, then Cage is happy to set you straight. "Hellboy is a later character," he said. "Ghost Rider's been cursed by the devil but he's not going to let the devil win. He sold his soul out of love, he was trying to save his father's life, and then he got tricked by the trickster. But because he did it out of love the devil can't get him. He can outfox the devil and use his powers for love and good, which is interesting."

To quote Scribe: "You must excuse me, I have Brownies in the oven, and the troup leader has almost broken out of the basement!"
Yes, all the kids I've roasted in my oven have turned out sickeningly sweet.
Adult flavor is indeed good.

I'm not sure what you mean but The Punisher I think had 'adult flavor' because it was rated R, had blood, guns, and nudity.

I think that Blade and Punisher are steps in the right direction, to get everything super-hero out of the kiddie realm. Despite the fact that all the other films have been PG-13, and if parents were responsible, 8 year old kids wouldn't be seeing it, but I digress. With the Punisher, we saw real life, along with over the top action. Joan's abusive boyfriend, Frank choking down a bottle of booze daily and more. It was definatly an adult film along the lines of Outlaw Josey Wales, pretty much everything Clint Eastwood and countless others. Kill everyone who messed with you while trying to sort out your very messed up ADULT life. Could the Punisher have been better? Yes. But it was pretty good overall and will open the door to a more human and real-life aspect for Marvel's movies in the future.

I agree and they did it all with only a budget of 33 million.

Yup, they also filmed it in what? 50 days? Pretty sweet on such a tight budget and clock.

Yeah I doubt any other director and crew could have done the same.

The way I feel, movies are the best chance for adult fans to experience their favorite charactors fully; you can't reasonably expect anything sold in a comic book store to be no-holds-barred, as any smart comic book company would want to keep that venue as kid-inclusive as possible. The last thing Marvel should do is slap under-age fans in the face by putting out a line of behind-counter age-restricted comics. The comic book store is the kids' place, too, and they would rightfully resent being at all excluded there.
But the movies? That's a completely different medium and I think Marvel should use a transition into film as a dual transition; into more adult themes simultaneously. Sure, there'd be anger, but I doubt it would come back to the core product, the comics, in fact, I think the kids would come to appreciate the comics more.
