Fun fact: Gandhi opposed modern medicine so much that he let his wife die rather than allow her to get a shot of penicilin. Later, when Gandhi himself needed modern medical treatment, his resistence to modern medicine mysteriously dissapeared. No point to telling you that, really. I just thought it was interesting.
Actually im not suprised he did something like that. I think anyone who preaches pacifism is full of ****
Do good people go to hell?
Hi there. You were asking for a conservative Christian response to your question about Ghandi. I hope this helps.
Is a remarkable man like Ghandi under condemnation, in spite of his many good works, just because he doesn't attend church on Sunday?
Absolutely not! Ghandi, and everyone else who has not been born again through faith in Christ, is in hell because he is spiritually dead. The Bible says sin brings both physical and spiritual death [Romans 6:23]. Every human being is born with a spirit. Unfortunately, we are also born with an inherited sinful nature, thanks to our original father Adam [1 Corinthians 15:20-22]. This means we are born with a contaminated, dead spirit that cannot be permitted to enter the holy perfection of God's eternal dwelling. In order for a person to gain entrance into heaven, it is necessary for him/her to be reborn spiritually -- made sinless -- made clean [John 3:3].
Some folks think it isn't fair for God to condemn good people to hell. They think Christians are crazy to teach that someone like Mahatma Ghandi or the Dalai Lama is destined for anywhere other than paradise. The problem is, our human definition of "good" falls far below God's standard of total perfection. No one is good. No one lives the way God wants them to. The Bible says, "There is no one righteous, not even one." [Romans 3:10] So Ghandi and the Dalai Lama and you and me all suffer from the same fatal problem. No matter how hard we try, each of us is considerably less than perfect.
God sent His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to pay the terrible debt we owe to God on account of our sins. Jesus died in our place, so that we can live His eternal life. The Bible says, "God made Him (Jesus) who knew no sin, to be sin for us, so that in Him (Jesus), we might become the righteousness of God." [2 Corinthians 5:21]
Everyone is a sinner. Therefore, everyone is naturally destined for hell. But God has offered forgiveness to anyone who will repent of their sins and receive His Son as Lord and Savior. Though every last one of us deserves summary judgment and eternal punishment, God in His mercy has chosen to be patient with us...because He loves us. And remember, Jesus didn't come to make bad people good; He came to make dead people live.
