Goku, he was the best and what he did was original. I loved his Super Saiyan 1 transformation, it was standard material. They should have fixed the series from when Frieza came to Earth. When Trunks came from the future it threw things off.
IMO, they should have let Goku come down to Earth and kill Frieza instead of Trunks. They should have done away with the virus and let him continue the story with the androids.
In addition to him learning instant transmission they should have had Goku learn new fighting techniques, I know that there had to be more techniques he could do besides his Kamehameha and the Spirit Bomb. Get him some wind techniques, give him some novas, comets, or meteors to fire out of his hands. I'd say the Nova, even a sun the size of pluto would have been good on Super Saiyan Goku. Give the stars to Super Saiyan Goku, he needs some new techniques!
Speaking on the transformations, they shouldn't have put SSJ2 and SSJ3 in, there was too much confusion. I much as I loved Super Saiyan 2 and 3, there were too many inconsistencies with the forms. It was tough to distinguish SSJ1 from SSJ2 without the lightning and SSJ3 was unstable. He had to be dead to use the form to its fullest potential. What's to say that they couldn't make Raditz a supersaiyan maybe even a Super Saiyan 2, he could be mistaken for SSJ3 Goku, T.B.H, I thought Goku was Raditz with the long hair, the only thing that would be saving the form is the eyebrows.
What they should have done is give Goku the Legendary Super Saiyan Form similar to Broly. LSSJ was incredible and distinguishable. There should have been a variation of the form where Goku wouldn't have the insane muscle mass, he would be slim and his emotions would be stable.
As for Trunks, He's from the 60's. Back to the 60's he go, there's no place for him in the future, get him back while he still can!

I also would've liked to see the remaining Z-fighters (during Goku's absence on planet Yardrat or whatever) be the ones to fight Mecha Frieza and King Kold. IMO, it would've been more interesting (and longer) that way, than Trunks stepping in and whooping them all.
Pre-Super Saiyan Vegeta vs Frieza's father probably would've been epic too. 😆
