Exactly. It wasn't this CD that made them this popular. It is the fact that they have new songs out now so it is fresh in everybodies minds. Dookie made them super-hits. Since then, there has been major anticipation for every album followed by a time of frenzy after their releases. I'm guessing that Barbarossa would have had a similar reaction if he saw the frenzy from previous releases. Instead, he was 11 the last release and didn't care about what other people thought.

I also want to add Barbarossa, that this is in no way an attack, so please don't take offense. It is just my little theory of why I think you didn't like this new album.

Alas, it is incorrect. I was quite capable of judging what others thought of Green day when I was eleven. I did care what they thought (although I don't anymore) What I was saying is that in the past they have had a handful of hits, but never an entire album. That and the fact that they changed their sound in this album. Unlike in earlier cd's in American Idiot they jumped on the band wagon of bands making semi-political songs whereas before their material was actually original. It's now my oppinion that old GD was good, but the new GD sucks ass.

glory, i learned quite a few shocking things about billie joe that i never knew before. like, he's been married for about ten years to someone named adrienne. has a kid or two that a buddy of mine says looks exactly like him.

Barbarossa - That's fine. I'm not saying that my theory "does" apply to you. But a lot of people would dislike them for the reasons mentioned and you could have fit in that category.

You just contradicted yourself, First your theory was based completely on me. Now you say it does not apply to me? 🙄

I never once said that it was for sure. It was a theory that could have 'possibly' fit you. However, the theory, whether it fits you or not, would still apply to others.

"Actually, Green Day has always been pretty much the same. The only difference with this new album is how it all connects and that it is more political but they have always been political anyway. Sounds similar to what Afro Cheese was saying in the other thread where you don't like them simply because they are popular right now. Now, I also checked something out about yourself to come to another theory (granted, this is just a theory, not claiming it to be fact). You were born in 1989, making you 16 (not claiming anything wrong with that). The point with your age is that this is the first time GD has released an album since you were about 11. Now, 11 is an age where I don't trust people's judgements at all. So in other words, this is the first time you have witnessed at an age with respectable views a GD release, so this is the first 'real' time that you saw all the popularity come with it. Thats exactly what I was thinking.

last week i was at two Green Day concerts. they were very very great. the first was here, in Hungary, the second in Austria, at the NovaRock Festival. the shows were almost the same, with small changes. but it was damn great both times 😄

the guys are really good. either they STILL enjoy this whole thing ( i mean the concerts, being on tour, etc), or they are f*cking great actors 😄

we knew the probable setlist before the concert, so we didnt expect big surprises. but when the song called Maria should've started, they started to play Homecoming. omfg. they rarely play this song and this is one of my very fav songs, and i never dreamt about hearing it at the concerts. this, when i realised that they were playing homecoming, this was one of the most beautiful moments of my life.

it was an incredible feeling to hear Billie Joe say 'thank you' in Hungarian, to see him sing Time of Your Life exactly in front of me, to see and hear all of them, Tré, Mike, Jason and the other ingeridents 😉
the whole thing was incredible, i was waiting a looong time for that day, but it was worth all of the suffering.
i will never forget these two concerts, these were the best concerts i have ever been at. i love this band more than ever and this is not a simple thing to do 😄

I'm seeing them again this September. They avoided Oregon for nearly 10 years and suddenly come 2 years in a row. Awesome.

I'm seeing them probably in November in Paris. I love that city, although I've never been there, and its the most beautiful dream to go there to a GD concert. I hope i will get there.

How would I feel if somebody said my band was shitty? Not bad at all. I'm not going to cry because somebody has a different opinion. Most people don't like my music anyways (example: general public finds Rob Zombie 'too scary'😉. Also, if they don't like my music, I would ask what they like and rip their bands apart.

If people don't like Tool, Radiohead, Rage etc. Fine by me. I prefer it.

If they actually go so far as to say they're shitty, then I will do as I always do.
