I think CGI looks fine for shots like that, but is it really necessary for the Clonetroopers' up close shots? How hard is it to fashion 50 or so suits and put real people in them. It just seems like lazy film making.
listen to the ep II commentry. someone wanted real people in suits for clones but george said: "you gave me a digital jango, a digital yoda and a digital 3po. i think digital clones will be better." or something like that

It reminds me of watching the behind the scenes of Matrix Revolutions, with all the Agent Smiths standing in the background. Half of them were real, and the rest were dummies sculpted to look like Smith.
Can't be too difficult to make Clonetrooper armor for upclose shots...
But still, this movie will be great!
FFS sake people!!! are there really people complaining about the lack of clonetrooper closeups here!? who gives a rat's ass? a couple months ago everyone was going berserk for a trailer or a shred of grevious. now that we're all completely spoiled to the point of having almost seeing the whole movie...there are complaints about the ****ing CLONETROOPERS!?

It's not the lack of closeups, it's the lack of using real actors in costume for closeups.

❌
that's what i'm talking about friend. who really cares that there aren't real people in real costumes? i'm sure this was a calculated "risk" and it won't make or break our movie going experience.
