i dunno why but I'm liking these canon-filler episodes regarding the skypea city.

^^ At least you're finished with Alabasta, which to me was boring. Skip the filler episodes, read what happens in between, and start watching again at new character introduction arcs such as Water 7, which is one of the best imo. Half the fun in OP are the dynamics between the crewmembers. So the more the merrier.

I'd also suggest reading half of Thriller Bark instead of watching as that arc was long as well.

I don't normally count Fairy Tail into the main shonen, though it should by all rights take Bleach's place, but at the moment both it and UQ Holder are more entertaining.

I think Oda's editors are too scared to give the due some legit criticism concerning this new arc.

Around Marineford was when it really started smashing sales records (i.e. every single volume that comes out now sells more than Harry Potter), which may or may not be related.

I don't think there's been a good arc since the crew's reunion. The reunion itself was fun but short, Fishman Island was crap, Punk Hazard was ok-ish, and this one is shaping up to be ok-but-too-long.

Yeah Arabasta bored me to tears. Was ready to just give up on the series and regard it as not my style.

Well Marineford was this big epic event and Luffy was going into it solo. And once Ace died Marineford basically ended every chapter by topping the HSQ set up to maximum awesomeness.

I think this arc is the best simply because it has enough good stuff in it that I like. I for one welcome the Tontata as a new race and hope we meet one who is a pirate captain. I can only imagine how they'd fit in the natural stupidity of the race.

And I got my ass spoiled big time xD. I'll stay out of this thread for the next 5 months.

Not sure how you were spoiled about it now. The OP fans blew up the internet with it when it happened.

Yet despite that thing known as Fishmen Island happening, OP continues to sell like crazy.

To be honset I lost all interest in this arc when Oda decided to have "filler vs filler" as main attractions. Not even Law and meteors could hold my attention after that crap.

S-Sabo-kun? =(

Quit spoiling shit...though I guess that would fall into the same boat as Ace.

But no, not even Sabo could hold my interest. Ussop's regression + "filler vs filler" + chase sequence = this arc being boring as ****.

At least I didn't spoil Robin's death.

Yeah Usopp was pretty terrible. Still is actually. The fight between him and Trebol/Sugar was inexcusably garbage.

Rebecca is a coward and an idiot.

Sabo vs Fujitora is so good though. Jesus Oda just make the rest of the arc about these two and their awesome fight.

Rebecca sucks, yes. She would have been so much better as a legitimately strong gladiator.

Robin, Chickenhead, Cavendish and Sabo were awesome though.

Cavendish is one of those random characters that actually makes this storyline better as it goes.

I'm rather fond to most quirky characters introduced in One Piece (as long as they aren't fishmen), but Cavendish has the silliest motivations ever and it totally works for me 👆

Glad to see Robin's at least

I am agreed Robin, Bartholomeo, Cavendish and Sabo were solid.

Rebecca I am totally not buying as a former gladiator... even with a defensive style. Wait, is this the second arc with 'female character breaks down crying when confronted with someone strong' we've had in a row? Ugh.

Sure, once people are invested to a level, it's harder to get them to quit.

Rebecca better man-up and join Cryos vs Trebor.

It is amazing how Tashigi comes across as better than Rebecca at this point.

Still not as sexy though.

Robin was pretty cool, as was Bartolomeo. Were it not for Rebecca being a coward I would not have disliked any of it.

Bartolomeo for nakama.

It is true that at least Tashigi tried *first*.

Yes.

Why can more female characters be like Robin, or Nami? Nami gets scared, but she doesn't break down and cry, she fights or runs! Running's allowed.

Why aren't women allowed to be weak in fiction?

They are. Like I said, running's ok.

But percentage of characters who've broken down and cried mid-fight: 100%. None of the male character have done so.

And they are... an experienced navy captain, and a gladiator.

And we don't exactly have a lot of powerful female characters around here either to counterbalance. There's some (Robin, Nami, Boa), but they haven't exactly done all that much recently! Robin's only had minor movements since the skip, Nami less.

If you had a full variety, it'd be one thing, but if you have a small pool... it's not-so-good.
