Malconin strode towards Drake as Darion began to take care of the last remaining zombies at camp. As he got closer, he noticed Drake clutching his arm, which was roiling and bubbling. Drake was staring wide eyed at the arm and gritting his teeth against the pain Malconin knew he was feeling.
"It is starting," Malconin said and Drake's head snapped up as if startled by his presence. "You are tuning on time my freind." Malconin cursed himself instantly, he hadn't meant to speak that last aloud, but Drake seemed too busy staring at the arm again to notice.
*Just a few more to go* Malconin thought *Just a few more...*
*FLASHBACK*
His field of vision was moving along a brightly lit corridor, lined on each side by Umbrella soldiers. Each highly armoured fighter saluted smartly as he drew level with them and he nodded in response. The end of the corridor opened out into a large circular room occupied by hundreds of scientists and Umbrella staff standing at attention.
In the very centre of the room sat a large glass tank filled with a greenish-blue liquid, and within this tank floated a human form, connected to which were several plastic tubes carrying out various functions.
A soldier stepped up to him as he gazed up at the floating figure and his feild of vision swung to face the man. The soldier saluted.
"Sir, all subjects are prepared and all is in order. Give us the word and it can begin."
Malconin's voice sounded hollow to his own ears as he replied with a nod.
"Yes...The time is now...Set it in motion."
*END FLASHBACK*
Malconin shook himself away from the memory to find Drake staring at him. His arm had calmed down, Malconin noticed.
"Are you okay?" Drake asked him. "I was talking to you, but you were just staring off into space...you mumbled something about the time being now...what time?...and what is now?"
Malconin stared at Drake for a long while before yanking him off the ground and leading him towards a nearby building.
"Hey, what the hell are you doing?" Drake asked angrily as Malconin pulled him along.
"I'v come to have a close bond with you," Malconin replied. "Not just a soldiers bond, but more like a brotherly bond...I never expected that to happen, and now you've put me in an awkward position..."
"What the hell are you on about, exactly...you sure this place isn't getting to you?"
Malconin hissed air through his teeth. "Drake, I have to tell you something that you aren't going to like very much...in fact, you will want to kill me for it...but you MUST...and I emphasize the word MUST, hear me out...you must promise not to act rashly, for the entire human race depends on how well we handle this situation."
"You sound like you know more about this situation that you have made out..." Drake pointed out suspiciously.
"Promise not to act rash and kill me...swear it onw whatever is most precious to you...only then will I tell you everything you need to know." Malconin stared intensely into Drake's eyes as he awaited a reply.
