Angel was silent as she made her way to the grave. She was now heavily pregnant, her womb bulging with the infant contained inside. Each time it moved she would smile, knowing it was alive and strong. Still, no question lay in her mind of who the father was. She knew it was not Speedy's. He had not returned for her when he promised he would. He was in Atlantis and would remain there with Aqualad to defend the powerful city. It was a nobel cause, but an almost certain fatality may consume him. She didn't think she could bear the thought of losing another loved one.A white rose, thorns long since removed as her feminine touch grazed across the smooth stem, was clutching lightly in her hand. The other rested upon the base of her enlarged stomach, steadying herself and her movements so no damage would come to the growing baby inside. Her footsteps were light, making no sound. Only her heart gave her away, for that she could not stop.
She came to a ceased movement, staring down at the grave. She could feel his touch on her arm, the caress of his lips against her cheek, the whisper of his voice in her ear... He had made her feel safe, he'd given her hope when she was all out of it, he'd picked her up when she'd fallen. He told her he loved her when she thought no one else cared...
"Tom..."
Tears filled her eyes when she saw his face. She kneeled down slowly, her white gown amazingly becoming undirtied by the loose soil. Her fingers dragged along the headstone, feeling the engraved letters of his name. She couldn't stop the tears from rolling down her cheeks. She wanted him there with her. She wanted him to help her raise the young being that lay untouched in her stomach. She wanted... She wanted him to love her again.
She remembered how she'd told him about her "condition" those eight months ago. How he'd looked hurt, betrayed... She couldn't get that look out of her head. She couldn't forget how she'd never even gotten a chance to say goodbye to him. Tears fell from her face, landing on the dirt and soaking into the soil. Why couldn't he come back? Why was she being torn from his grasp? She needed him...
Sam stood next to Angel, holding the baby in one hand and her shoulder with the other. "Be not sad for your fallen love... he must find his strength if he is to come back... He has been struggling to see you again. His fight is hard and the roads of the spirit world are long, but his love for you will guide him back." Sam looked down at the baby he had been taking care of. "I was guided back to this world through my desire to care for this child... Tom will have to follow a similar path to come home to you." Sam said as he sat down and gently rocked the baby in his arms. "Be not sad... instead... remember your love for Tom, the pleasant thoughts and happy memories will act as a beacon for Tom as he travels back to this world."

[It's getting back up again. I'm impressed.]*A cold, chilling wind blew across Gotham City as leaves from nearby trees blew across empty streets. A boy, in his teenage years, was walking along a sidewalk at around 2 am. He was making his way to the grave of one of his oldest and dearest friends, Tom.
Tom had been killed eight months ago by an assassin. The assassin was never found, and may still be lurking around the city today. The boy had green skin, pointy ears that stood up, small, sharp, fang-like teeth, and a purple and black suit.
As he arrived, he found a heavily pregnant girl leaning over Tom's grave. The boy watched as her tears slowly dropped onto the ground. Then the boy finally spoke up.* "How's the kid doing?"
*The boy, Beast Boy, was his name, took a couple of steps forward and smiled at her. Even though he missed Tom as much as she did, he acted as if nothing really happened.*
"I know it hurts, Angel, and it may haunt you for the rest of your life, but just remember I'm always here if you need anything, anything at all." *He smiled and her again* "Anyway, I still need an answer to my question. How's the kid doing?"
Sam looked back at Beast Boy. "It's good to see you again Beast Boy... I trust you have been well." Sam said as he stood up. "Kel has been looking for you... he thinks he has an answer to the question you have been asking... He thinks he knows what happened to Tom and what can be done to save anyone else that might share his fate. Don't wander too far from this place, Kel will find you here shortly." Sam said as he started to leave. "You child will grow to be healthy and happy, Angel... you have a good heart and a gentle touch, you will make a fine mother." Sam said as he seemed to fade into the city streets, the shadows of the people around him shrouding him until he could no longer be seen.
Kel arrived as soon as Sam disappeared. "Beast Boy, I've got it. The mind control, the reason people are chosen... I've figured out their operation... They've changed it recently though... They've been putting on a front, making themselves look innocent ever since they talked to Lance... The profit wasn't in charge of it though, he was as much of a puppet as the rest of them... we have to find Lance and get that place cleaned up for good." Kel said quickly as he held out a bunch of notes he had been writing. Kel stopped when he saw Angel crying at Tom's grave, he realized that now wasn't the best time for the subject. Kel walked forward and looked at Angel. "I promised I would bring them to justice... It took me a while, but I'm finally going to get them." Kel said as he turned as walked away. "They're going down once and for all!"
"He seems persistent." Said a very familiar voice jokingly. "Hey Angel... long time, no see." Tom said as the rain started to fall. His body wasn't whole, it could be seen clearly but it was still incorporeal. "Sorry it took me so long... I got a little lost on the way here." Tom said as he held out his hand to Angel. "I've only got a few steps left to take... but they might be difficult... will you walk with me?"
