Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver

Started by Red Superfly4 pages

I don't like Velvet Revolver all that much. They just aren't as fun as GnR.

Don't get me wrong, I like Velvet Revolver, it's just that comparred to Guns and Roses, they aren't that great by a long shot.

Also, funnily enough, I like AFD, but my fave songs on it are the popular ones. Welcome To The Jungle is the best song on there while Paradise City and Sweet Child O Mine come next. That's really wierd for me, because I usually buy an album because of the singles songs - listen to the album - and fall in love with the "unknown" songs even more than the singles. With AFD, it's come full circle. I bought it for the hit tracks, ended up liking the likes of Mr. Brownstone even more, and now I'm back to preferring the hit songs again. Wierd.

But GnR are imo better than Velvet Revolver.

Guns 'N' Roses.

VR are as bland as a Jim Davidsom stand up show V_V

Guns and Roses are one of my top 5 bands ever

Yeah same.

I think there is like one Velvet Revolver song that i think is "ok" and thats All Bad Things...

come to think of it thats not even that good 😖

i just joined this really cool velvet revolver forum where duff mckagan actually checks out and posts comments. no joke! i read all of them and the threads that talk about how the band is aware of that forum and do check up on it, mainly duff does. if you would like proof and all or join the forum, ask me nicely to post the link to it sometime! dude, i left a comment and question for him in the question thread made for him, can't wait for him to respond! 😱

guns n roses is better but velvet revolver is cool too. ^what's the site called??

here's the link to the velvet revolver forum where he posts: http://www.velvetrevolverforum.com/forum/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=423 - this is his profile - just find the link that says "find all posts by duff" and a window should pop up of his comments - then once there - just click on the title of the threads that he posted those comments in to check them out. also, there are a couple of other threads that provide proof that he does post there and is aware of the forums.

if you would like to join the forum, just click on the banner at the top to take you back to home page and then look to the right for where you can register. enjoy! 😮‍💨

Guns N' Roses, definetly. I like VR, got their album, but it bores me when I listen to it. I still listen to AFD often and I think it`s one of the better albums that came out in the 80`s.
Axl kills Scott, btw. Axl is a great frontman, even if he is crazy. Scott can`t top Axl.
I think Guns has better music, too. Slash`s guitar solos, Matt`s drumming abilty, and Duff`s bass playing were all memorable in their days in Guns. You can`t say the same for VR.
Izzy isn a better rythum guitarist than Dave is. 🙂

and where is Axl now? 😕

If memory suits me correctly Axl was the problem child that drove Guns and Roses to drop their tour resulting in their break up.

But in GnR's defense against, Velvet Revolver hasn't been together long enough to go through all the trails and tribulations that most groups go through.

Their first CD is awesome and in my opinion can go toe-to-toe with just about any GnR CD...but GnR didn't make JUST one good CD.

Ooh I f*cking remember that! I had tickets for that tour, but that party was cancelled. Goddammit!

Still, GNR remains my all time favorite band. VR made a decent start, and I appreciate Weiland a lot. But Contraband is IMO not as good as Appetite or both Illustion volumes. It lacks really legendary songs.

It lacks really legendary songs.

Appetite for Destruction only had 3 major legendary songs that the band never really surpassed.

I like VR and all, but I can't imagine how anyone would even consider them to be half as good as gnr just because many are former members. Gnr had perhaps the most dynamic frontman in rock since dlr left van halen, and izzy was also the main sonwriter, not slash.

Axl Rose wasn't the most dynamic frontman, he was a dynamic front man who happened to be in the most famous Rock 'n' Roll band in the world at the time.

What about November Rain?

Those first three songs are legendary, but not near as great as some of other songs. They don`t go as deep as Estranged, Breakdown, Coma, Don`t Cry, November Rain, Locomotive, etc. They`ve had loads of songs that could`ve been legendary, but the public just wasn`t interested.
Izzy and Axl were the two main songwriters, not just Izzy. Axl wrote almost all of Use Your Illusions II. And he co-wrote most of the rest of the songs.
Axl was just strange. He wore kilts and hardly ever wore his pants. He wasn`t the most dynamic, though. I agree with AC on that one

Yeah, November Rain also.

I'm not saying they aren't a great band. I'm saying it's not fair to judge another band on not having as many legendary songs as GNR is it?

That was just kind of a general statement, that wasn`t pointed towards you.
And, no, it isn`t fair to judge them like that. People need to give VR time to create a name for themselves rather than constantly compare them to STP and GNR.

Well they've created a name for themselves.

They've made a very promising debut. If only promising in the sense that we'll see quality from them each time, not neccessarily massive evolution.

*thinks about it*
