He didn't regenerate. He had to teleport the hell out of there to recuperate and retreat. He even said that he never was hurt so bad in his life. He was near unconsciousness...until Captain America sped up the process.

Iron Man then pins Wolverine with his uni-beam
Iron Man empties payload into the mutant
