New things confirmed for Halo 3, as well as that mysterious "X" button...

The bubble shield will be used! w00t

There is a trip mine that looks pretty neat.

The"X" button is kind of complicated...it seems you can slow down time or go back and watch your death or how you killed somebody, that could get kind of annoying in the middle of a match though, so I am excited to see how Bungie figures it out...

This all came from a Vidoc released by Bungie on the Xbox Live Marketplace which I downloaded...and sadly I saw no "Elite" players and no energy swords for the multiplayer...although I am pretty sure I remember Bungie hinting at bringing the Elites back, I will try to find it for those who need proof.

I believe you're confused about the X button. The "replay" feature is for after a game has finished. You can go back and review what happened, watch in slow motion, rewind, fast forward, change camera angle, etc. The X button will be for using the Bubble shield and the trip mine, which are supposed to be similar to using grenades, but not entirely identical.

I thought I heard the people say during the Vidoc something about pushing "X" when they were talking about it and referring to the slo-mo, etc....

YouTube link to the new ViDOC with footage of the Bubble Shield and more!

This is seriously gonna be a sweet game...

Read the article from gamespot.... "O'Connor also says that the mysterious function of the X-button is also revealed in the video, but doesn't explain exactly what it does in the announcement on Bungie.net. However, on the Bungie.net forums, he says "X Button is DEPLOY EQUIPMENT" (emphasis in original) and that it is shown three times in the video. Halo fans are assuming that the Shield Grenades and Trip Mines (explained in the video) are two of the instances, and the third may be a portable gravity lift (watch the blue Spartan on the left side of the screen 23 seconds into the video) which allows players to boost up to higher ground with ease."

While it isn't certain what it does, it is certain that it's not the replay feature. They did a whole Weekly Update on it a while back.

I saw that and was just assuming that they increased the jumping height...so that could be the "X" button.

Yes they did and I read it, why couldn't that be it?

They've stated that using a "Save video" feature you'll be able to look back on the match to replay footage, change camera angle, even look from your opponent's perspective. Because of the nature of this feature, I think it can be safely assumed you won't be reviewing video in the middle of a game.

And, as Spartan pointed out, O'Connor said the X button was used at three instances in the trailer, and we didn't see the replay feature at all.

I've been lead to believe that the X button will actually deploy certain special weapons and items such as the shield grenade we saw in the TV commercial. Instead of it taking up a weapon or grenade slot, I guess they saw it fit to place them in a category all their own, with their own special button to use them.

I got it from this video, released yesterday I believe:

Or, I'm wrong, and they're still counted as grenades or something like that. It's all speculation.

Read up a few posts, vid and speculation are both above.
