Rorschach is from the graphic novel "Watchmen," by Alan Moore. This is the best graphic novel ever created, and those of you who haven't read it (I'm lookin' at you, Gregory) should hang your heads in shame, or rush out and buy/borrow it now.
Rorschach is a murderous, right-wing nut with no superhuman abilities, but the same kind of single-minded crusader complex as Batman, with vastly differnt methods, goals, and values. He was traumatised by finding out his abusive mother was a prostitute when he was very young. He was bullied by other kids and he retaliated violently. Eventually he was taken from his home and... um... Damn, I read this again recently. It's in the next room, but I'm sooo tired. Anyway, it was probably foster care or somesuch. They thought he was retarded or similarly disabled at first, but he soon proved he was at least of average intelligence, and often quite bright.
He claims he started his vigilante career after finding about the rape, torture and murder of a young woman that was witnessed but ignored by about a hundred witnesses.
He partnered with the wealthy and technologically adept Nite Owl II, cleaning up gangs and drug rings. They both tried to join a team of superheroes, but the team didn't stay together.
At some point, Rorschach was on the case of a missing girl who had been kidnapped by some sociopaths and fed to dogs. He fed the killers to their own dogs and then began killing all his prey. When a law was passed that prohibited vigilante activity, Rorschach replied to the edict by leaving the corpse of a rapist on a police station's steps with a note that said "Never." At least I think that's right.
There is no question who is more "psycho," although I must question the meaning of the word. Psychotic (delusional) or psychopathic (without conscience)? Rorschach may be neither, but he is definitely closer to a psychopath than the Batman. The Batman is neither psychotic nor a psychopath. Rorschach had it much worse than the Batman, and he turned out much worse.
At your service, Kal.
You know they're trying to make a movie out of that, right? So far, I've heard Jon Cusack as Nite Owl, and Sigourney Weaver is being considered for the senior Silk Spectre.
I'm assuming a movie wouldn't do Watchmen justice. The last three movies based on Alan Moore's work I saw (Return of Swamp Thing, From Hell, League of Extraordinary Gentleman) were not up to snuff. No way a movie will capture the brilliance of this story.

true say that squire, true say that! I think the two mentioned actors are actually quite suited to the said parts but no way will they manage to get the right feel to the movie. I liked from Hell but I havent rear Moore's comic yet.Worth owning?

I couldnt have said it better. Rorschach is more Joker minded than Batman.
I just read the Watchmen last year and its top shelf material for sure. It definately ranks in my top five of all time. To whoever that hasent read it......DO IT NOW!
***I agree that a movie wouldnt do this story justice. There wouldnt be enough time in the movie to touch upon all of the characters. Some things are better left alone.***
