Im actually suprised that anakin hesitates before engaging Mace in the Palps/Mace duel, after all mace has always been the polar opposite of palps when it comes to anakins self esteem, I cant recall one good thing he has ever said regarding anakin
Maybe it's through respect.... Mace next to Yoda is probably the epitome of the Jedi-order in Anakin's mind and while having one foot in the
"I really resent that parent figure holding me back" pot, he probably still sees Mace's nagging/critisism as of a caring/parental sort.....
In life, its good to have someone to boost your ego a bit,
but vitally important when that happens that one foot gets kept on the floor for groundings sake.... Palps was very rarely critical of Anakin and that seems just as imbalanced as Mace seems sometimes in his extremity.
Once killed, that balance was removed... Except for Obi-wan, of course..
yeah this is true but i would apply the parental criticism thing only to Obi and Yoda, as there has always been a tension that the audience could feel between Mace and Anakin, starting all the way back at ani's first apperance in the jedi temple, the look he gave mace was the first glance into evil in anakins life

Agreed. I think though that even if he resents Mace like 80%,
the 20% of respect for him and the order will be enough to cause the hesitation in question... and as he'll know Mace to be an iconic poster boy for the Jedi including obi-wan and yoda, and slaughtering him up'd be more or less a total severance of his way back..
Anakin is reverent and respectful toward Palpatine because he's not rebelling against Palpatine's authority and Palpatine doesn't put him on the defensive the way Obi-Wan and the Jedi Council does. Anakin admires Palpatine as a politician and as a person. He defends the Supreme Chancellor as a good man and claims he is not corrupt. Palpatine will offer Anakin power beyond what the Jedi have taught him, the illusion of greater freedom to use that power, and affirmation of Anakin's darker passions.
Yeah, don't forget the www. Millennium has two N's in it, if you only put one you go to the OS.
