A friend of mine got his hands on the Little Children DVD, so I'll be giving that a watch tonight.
I was rather hungover and sleep deprived, but actually made it through "A Scanner Darkly". Beautiful..EXCELLENT movie. It was swift, and while it threw me for a curve until the very end, things ultimately made sense. May get it again to watch it with commentary, however viewing the extras will explain a good bit.
Watched August Underground, a vile little piece of film, and was impressed. So bleak, so real, so disgusting, and so brave.
I was surprised that it actually relied on a lot of psychological horror and atmosphere to be effecting, rather than being another gorefest. But it did have gore, and it was good. Used sparingly to enhance the impact, but enough to keep gorehounds satisfied.
Special features were great, worth getting the DVD just for them, I think.
Overall any fan of extreme horror should be able to appreciate this right off the bat, and others (like my mom) will appreciate it a bit more when they hear interviews from the director explaining his intent and point of the film.
