I find that unless you show your identity through what you wear, your music taste, what hobbies you have etc. no one notices you, no one gives a damn, and no one will ever get to know you.'Ordinary' people are bland. They arent exciting and often people like me dont share interests with them. Thats why I dress differently, its cos I feel different. Its hard to explain, but its like conforming to what people think is nonconformist. You might be conforming, but at least your different. . . i dunno. Difficult to explain.
Dressing a certain way to be seen as unique doesn't make you unique or different, it means you're concerned over something that is silly and trivial.

Just because your insecure about what you wear or how people percieve you doesnt make you trivial. I dont claim dressing a certain way make you unique. I'm saying it makes you stand out in a way you wouldnt if you didnt dress differently from most people.
Yes, I am stereotyping, because that's how most goths I've encountered act.
They only hang around with other goths or "outcasts", and think anyone who is popular is automatically bad and want nothing to do with them, even if they've never met the person before, they will judge them based on how they look.

that's a pretty wide assumption and kind of defeats what you were saying about not judging on looks...becuase you're assuming everybody who looks like a goth wants to hang around with people who look like goths.
I said nothing about looks, I said "Goths", as in people who consider themselves goths. I'm just using the term they give themselves.
And again, it wasn't an assumption, it's based on my experiences with goths. Hence the term "most". I never said ALL goths do this, just most.
I wear the most ordinary crap ever, because I don't care. Wearing ordinary shit actually tells people you don't care about what you look like.
Society is shallow, and that's why society judges on looks. But, there are people that don't, and those are the people I hang out with. People who think personality will take you farther than gelled up hair and a facefull of makeup.
that is amazingingly narrow minded...i'm not a goth but my friend is and the group of people we hang around with aren't goths at all we're all different and she dosen't rule out being friends with 'popular' people, generally we steer clear of them from experience of them being bitchy, two-faced and shallow

Popular people dont want anything to do with us, genraly i stay out of there way but the make my existance public, like on friday i was late to class and the teacher was away so one of the popular kids named Chris got eveyone to through paper balls at me when i enterd the room.

So, don't be late for class.
And, you're also stereotyping right now, not all popular kids are like that. There are plenty who got popular by being nice, friendly, funny and likeable to a lot of different people. Not all are jerks, though most are.

There are better ways to stand out then dressing like a retard, maybe developing a unique personality of some sort would be a good start.
Maybe showing some sort of affinity for other people would be a start for you?
I cant help it if I dont feel comfortable buying into big brand names etc. I do feel comfortable hanging out with my friends who understand me, and yeah some dress like me, but that doesnt mean we dont have unique personalities. It just goes to show how ignorant you are when you make a general statement assuming someone you dont even know hasnt got a unique personality.
