how to loose friends and alienate people- saw it because a friend of mine is a huge simon peg fan. all i got from that film is that megan fox is hot. 😕 physically, anyways. her actual role wasn't all that impressive.

role models- entertaining. made LARPing look strangely appealing. 😑

That's because it's an 'Oh My God remake!!!'. You see, when people watch a film and develop an emotional connection to it, they can't seeing a variation or recreation of it; they will inevitably feel like it 'raped' the source material due to artistic liberties and changes. I don't trust people whose entire negative view of a remake is clearly because it is one.

It's not that I think IA is probably a bad film or I don't want to see it, but you simply can't trust the opinions of people who give blatantly negative reviews to a film while constantly comparing it to the source material. I personally trust the opinions of critics and Award Circles more than that, but I'll try not to make judgments before I watch it.

My brother saw Infernal Affairs afterwards and still felt, having seen it, that it made The Departed look a bit crap...

Okay, fair enough. Did you get to watch it already?

Ordered it last week. Waiting for it (impatiently). If it really is vastly superior to The Departed then it's got to be something pretty awesome...

Duh. I still can't buy that freakin' Scorsese will remake a film and create a superb one, and even that superb one is topped by its source material. If that's true, then it's gotta be really something.

By the way, you can watch the entire film on youtube. Just saying.

I object to piracy. It just ruins the experience of watching a film. And it generally does damage to smaller (and often better) films, not to big blockbuster Michael Bay bullshit.

I can't think what the quality is like on youtube.

On the contrary; 'piracy' enables less-known films that might not be widely available on DVD to be attain a wider audience. This actually assists the film, to a degree. Interest in it may not be wide enough to purchase it for 25$ (and you gotta admit the current price of DVDs is outrageous). Smaller films will not have a wide enough awareness to get a high box office from theatrical runs, and certainly not DVD; piracy actually leads to the potential development of a greater fanbase.

And big ass blockbusters that make a gazillion dollars on their run don't exactly need more money, right? They'll make their profit, piracy or not. I think the film industry needs to understand that the electronic age must be utilized; piracy cannot be destroyed, and thus they need to find some sort of alternative that will enable them to make a profit off making their films down-loadable at a decent price.

MildPossession- the quality is actually fairly decent. Certainly watch-able. Here's a part of it if you want to check it out [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qn1pOFVRp-c&feature=related]. I guess it's a better experience to watch it on a television set, though...

That's actually pretty shit, can see the pixels are quite big and a slight halo around the actors, and I watched it on the closed screen, not open...

Not really, if you look around you can get most films cheap, I can get most new release dvds around the £8 mark. Or you can rent. I got Infernal Affairs when it first came out in Hong Kong for only £7.

Iunno, I can handle that Youtube quality.

You can get decent DVD's for only 8 euros? That's quite cheap, but even that is a bit overpriced, especially in comparison to the films you can get on the Internet for free. The thing is, though, some 'sets' of films can get as expensive as 50 bucks, which is completely outrageous. The mainstream price for a DvD is roughly 20$ or so, and even more than that over here. In short, while it is possible to buy decently priced ones, they're quite rare.

I dunno if this is good or bad - the last movie I saw in theatre was "The Dark Knight." Three times.

And the last movie I've watched at home is "The Dark Knight."

I told my bestie we should've kept going to the theatre... when we watched it together at home she ruined the whole "send in the clown" moment and the magic trick.

30 days of night. Movie was pretty good.

I bought the 1st film 2nd hand from Amazon actually. I'm not even sure if it's available new in the UK. It only cost £2 or £3 plus £1.21 postage. I confess, that doesn't help small films either, but I'm not ripping anyone off still. In fact, it's effectively recycling!

Dragonball evolution 🙁 my eyes are still bleeding.

Well here in England we are not on Euros at the moment, so there is a slight price difference for us compared to euros, bit more expensive if I bought the same dvd, say in France instead of buying it in England.

£8 isn't overpriced at all for a DVD, I rather pay for my own physical copy, that most of the time comes in special edition boxes with artwork and is 100% correct quality(from what I've been told, you don't get that when you download a film at the moment, even a legal paid for download), now if you mention Blu-Ray, most of these ARE bloody expensive.

I also have multi region dvd players, so I have the pick of the crop when getting the cheapest avaliable price for whatever DVD around the world. So not rare at all for me anyway.

Yeah, box sets tend to be quite expensive though. Agree with that.

Do you mean Infernal Affairs?, all three are currently avaliable to buy here in the UK brand new.

That's some nice money over there. I didn't know you could buy a film at such cheap a price, which means now my repressed feelings of guilt are surfacing. Oh well, I'll just have to get over them anyway.

I'm still quite sure that piracy actually helps small films, ironically enough. Oh well.

Yeah, I know the money system in England, but you used '£', which is the sign for euro (I think!).

Well, I think that 'artwork' is mostly gimmicky and completely pointless; it simply serves to cost more money for something that doesn't actually have any genuine entertainment value. Perhaps sadly, you can get any 'bonus features' from the film (like interviews from the filmmaking team) online, so even that doesn't serve as a particular reason to buy a DVD. Certainly not in our current economic climate.

Most downloads come at a quality called 'DvDrip', which means it, as the title suggests, is directly 'ripped' from the actual DvD. Any damage to the quality is very small in scope and barely noticeable. Though what might contribute to that is my TV's screen quality, which is rather low (it's an old one).

You're lucky. I just can't get my hands on decently priced DvDs.

You know a funny thing? I was trying to play a movie yesterday, and my DvD broke down. Now it's being fixed, but the problems with it have been consistent (my cheap-ness is not rewarded well). All in all, it looks like the Gods of Film are very angry with my naughty actions.

One of mine has broken down after about six years, so it needs replacing, going for an HDMI upscaling dvd player, only costs around the £50! and it's top quality.

Are multi region dvd players easy to come by in America? you can get them cheap. Or your player might already be able to change, some can have a code loaded into them and they change into multi region.

£ = pound sign, the Euro is different but I don't seem to have the key option on my silly keyboard... it's similar though.

Holy shit you can get things cheap. I don't live in America, and over here electronics are some of the most conceivably expensive things you can lay your hands upon. For example, an Xbox 360 costs around 700$ here. No, I am not kidding.

I don't know how much a decent DvD will cost, but I'll bet it's insanely expensive. So I'm not going to bother buying a new one at the moment.

Oh, come ON. Apparently a Euro is like this: '€'. I mean, how similar is it to '£'? Someone ripped off someone in the economics department.
