So what makes it any more pointless then a happy movie? Some people like more sorrowful tales or things that explore the human condition in real tragedy.
I totally understand the different genres in movies & I also fully comprehend that people watch movies for different reasons...to feel good about themselves...to laugh at the ridiculous...to loose themselves in fantasy or get pumped up from action/adventure...or cry & weep about tragedy.
If 12 Years A Slave depicted slavery that still happens today or sex-trafficking or forced child labour...I would fully grasp the sense of tragedy & feel the anger. I would understand the need for such a movie to bring to light to people who are unaware or ignorant to the plight that is still happening today.
But it's 2014 now. The movie depicts something that happened roughly 400 hundred years ago. We can't change the tragic past. We can't turn to our fellow Black American & show sympathy or apologise for actions our ancestors did....at the end of the day, all we can do is vote that this movie gets an oscar & praise it for glorifying human tragedy.
Yeah...thanks but no thanks.
