Mimic: Director's Cut
I had never seen the film before and I kind of blind bought the blu-ray because it was pretty cheap and I have enjoyed some of Guillermo del Toro's stuff before, although he has been a little hit or miss. I have to say, this was a brilliant little horror/thriller!! I've never seen the theatrical cut, so I can't speak at all about the differences, but I do know that del Toro states that he is proud of this edition. He has some great commentary on some of the special features which makes me really respect him as a filmmaker. I'm thoroughly impressed with this film. A disc I'm proud to have in my collection. It's a beautifully filmed and taut little slow-builder. Brilliant execution of a little b-movie premise. It was so good in fact that I will probably go back and revisit some of del Toro's other films because I probably judged them a little too harshly.
Home: '10 Cloverfield Lane'
Honeydickin' ass title. Man, i understand why they did it from a marketing perspective, but i feel lied to; the movie literally had jack shit to do with 'Cloverfield'. The movie itself was compelling, but i was left feeling unsatisfied, and that wouldn't have happened if the title was different. Other than that, the only problem i had with the movie was that the ending was kinda jarring. There was a significant tonal shift in the 3rd act that made it fall apart for me.
Home: 'After Sex'
good movie. Left me wanting more time with certain characters from a few of the vignettes.
Theater: 'TMNT 2'
Very fun movie. The movie isn't on the level of the best comic films, but in terms of simply living up to the spirit of a comic movie, it's among the best ever made, imo.
Theater: 'X-Men: Apocalypse'
lmao. what a piece of shit movie. Some laughable, straight up cringe-worthy moments in this movie, and not even a rehashing of Quicksilver's epic scene from DoFP could save it.
Home: '13 Hours'
good movie. solid performances from everyone involved and the action was intense.
Home: 'London Has Fallen'
pretty meh. Great action in some places, but very difficult to follow in others.
Home: 'The Brothers Grimsby'
this movie is so gross and immature. but goddamn i laughed a lot. Mark Strong and Sasha Baron Cohen played well off each other, and I'm glad they weren't afraid to go "there" with certain jokes. I appreciate a hard-R comedy.
Home: 'Do I Sound Gay'
Terrific documentary about a topic i always wondered about and even asked some gay people i know about. Very interesting stuff.
