USH'S STAR WARS GAME- CAMPAIGN II EPISODE II (LIGHT SIDE)- Arms Race

"Thankyou, Xeth..." says Gralus, when you deliver Clarion. He says it rather hintingly to you, as in it is time for you to move on.

Meanwhile, is there anything you wanted to talk to your mentor about, Xeth?

This man is well-dressed and well-spoken, Clarion. A Taloranian... he's form one of the core worlds. The Taloranians are tinkerers, they make things, often weaponry. Not unusual, then, that Xeth chose to pitch in with them; Xeth is a Geonosian, after all, and his people are similar, so you understand- if somewhat more sinister.

But the Taloranians are also a rather intrigue-laiden people; their home political culture is ever full of plots within plots, though rarely of the murderous kind; they moved on from that stage (as in the state where the Neimodians still are) a long time ago. Nonetheless, their intelligence service is well funded and gets around a lot, and might have had the odd hand in things that would be considered dodgy. Odd thing is, though, they also consider themselves to be committed moralists, in an 'ends justify the means' sense, and a lot of their undercover work has gone towards uprooting corruptive practices in the Republic.

You understand, therefore, that Xeth was working for them in this capacity, when this current case was in its infancy, trying to track why a sizeable poriton of the army that invaded Naboo- very much your business, of course- ended up in private hands. Xeth got distracted from this job when he ran unto Gundark et al, and you understand that this was fortunate because everyone else on the investigation, when they tracked the case to the Techno-Union, died in mysterious technology-related accidents.

Now, of couse, Xeth has this loose association of fellow Renegades he works with, and it is them that have been receiving these tip-offs form Xeth's contacts.

"Master Clarion" says Gralus, who produces an id card that identifies himself as a ranking police officer, though not currently inside his jurisdiction. "An honour to meet you. I have heard about your work on Naboo, of course." He offers his hand.

"I trust you were intriqued by what you've heard, otherwise we would not be meeting like this? Clarion shakes his hand. "What did you wish to see me about?"

No Fire, quite specifically, I would prefer discussions like that in this thread and NOT in General Discussion. As far as I am concerned, player discussions relating to making in-game decisions belong in here- and most certainly if I have cause to correct an erroneous basis for a decision, I only want to have to check through one thread in order to do so.

*Delfedd leaves his room and begins to walk towards the training area*

"That was my intention" states Clarion.

Hmm," says Gralus, ordering another drink.

"No offence to the Naboo, of course; they are a fine, upstanding race with a great cultural contribution to the Galaxy. But... there is a reason the Trade Federation picked them for their invasion, Master Clarion.

"The Naboo are one of life's unfortunates. Their achievement has never been matched by an ability to be truly self-sufficient and understanding of the ways of the Galaxy. If the Galaxy was a playground, the Naboo would be the smart kid that all the meaner kids beat up every week for his lunch money. And there are some pretty mean kids out there. And I think you know only too well that it will take more than a re-organisation of their security to stop something like that invasion happening again. Even if you did your job perfectly, there is always another kid to bully. The problem needs to be dealt with at source. Queen Amidala hopes that Palpatine will do the job, but the way things are going, for all his efforts, it might take decades, and who knows what might happen in that time?

"We've tried to work with the Naboo before... but some of the people on my world are not exactly culturally compatible with some of the people there... a shame. Because what the Naboo do have, is a modest but significant amount of money, some smart minds, and recently, rather a lot of political influence. Amidala plans to run fir Senator herself, I hear, and if she makes it she will become one of the great figures of the Republic. Ironiclaly, that was the Federation's work- they put Naboo on the map.

"They have the resources to do what needs doing. We can acquire the knowledge needed to do this kind of work. But who has the means? Very few people indeed; the enemies of peace in the Galaxy are resourceful, determined, and dangerous. That is why we use Xeth and his associates- people with talent in the Force have the means to survive.. If only the Jedi were more able to make headway- but as you can see, they are politically hamstrung. No fault of their own... just another symptom of the Republic's decay.

"But there is only so much Xeth can do. With our help, he exposed Strine's operation, but to actually follow it up, we needed the Jedi to start this investigation, and it is not as complete as we wanted. You may get Ryamore, but charging him will be another matter, and he is only one man amongst many.

"Some of us... have envisaged an alternative... which we would like to propose to you."

"Now what is he up to?" thought Clarion.

"Go ahead Gralus, I'm listening."

(So Wait, Fire, We dont need a bigger ship, There are lots of Renegades, they go with Xeth, Since Clarion's ship can hold all the Knights, I, Or someone else can pilot it.)

( I had offered Red but Roan was whining that we take his ship. 😂 Dont know where we are at this point. )

"We think, with your help, we could form an organisation. A form of Private Investigation company. We supply the info, through Xeth, and the Naboo supply the financial and political backing, as channelled through you. If the Naboo put their heart into the venture, they might even get you PI permits that are Galaxy wide. Not that they will give you any police powers, of course- no more than you have as Jedi when not on duty- but it will give legitimacy to the whole enterprise.

"Xeth and his friends can form the basis of the people who do the groundwork, which will be focussed towards the area of undoing conspiracies like this one, and fighting injustices upon the Republican citizenry in general. But if they have one problem... it is that they are seen as disruptive; uncontrolled, maybe even dangerous to some eyes. But you... you are a Jedi Master. Even with your disagreements with the Council, you would bring a certain respectability to a franchise like this. People would take note and listen.

"You have a lot in common with Xeth and his friends, of course. They wouldn't have to see you as leader as such, so long as you fronted the business, but being a Master it would probably make sense if you had a more forward role in it all. You will probably be more comfortable than them than with the Jedi, and you even even afford a level of control that will be beneficial.

"If it goes well, the enterprise need not be limited. Both my world and the Naboo could supply civilian workers to deal with smaller cases. The whole operation could even become financially self-supporting. Or you could work for free, whatever suits you, so long as someone puts forward the cash.

"So what I am proposing, Clarion... is that you head up our OWN organisation... that can do what needs to be done, free of the bureaucratic excessed of Coruscant."

Xeth goes to see his Master just for a bit of banter before the mission, as he is customed to doing when he has time for it.

Clarion sat and listened to the proposition, and thought "a situation like this could work, but it could also have it's drawbacks."
